00:06Disney's Frozen 2 melted hearts around the world and plowed its way to shattering a
00:11number of records in its box office debut. The sequel to the beloved 2013 film about
00:15princesses and the power of sisterhood came in way ahead of expectations, grossing an
00:20estimated $130 million in North America and $228.2 million internationally for a
00:27worldwide haul of $358.2 million. Unlike other November franchise installments that got
00:34badly iced, take Charlie's Angels, Terminator Dark Fate and Doctor Sleep as examples,
00:39Frozen 2 created a global blizzard that was yet another victory for Disney. The sequel
00:44broke a number of records in its opening weekend including biggest global opening of
00:48all time for an animated film, top international opening of all time for an animated
00:52film, biggest domestic November opening for an animated film and biggest
00:57IMAX opening for an animated film just to name a few. The original Frozen earned $1.28
01:02billion globally to become the top grossing animated release of all time. The musical
01:07tale also won numerous awards including the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and Best
01:12Original Song for Let It Go. Follow-ups in a franchise are tough but Disney distribution
01:17chief Kathleen Taff wasn't worried about the power of this film saying,
01:20Six years is a pretty big gap but the length of time doesn't matter when people feel invested
01:25in the characters.
01:26Disney has been having a heck of a year so far, already skating past a record $10.8
01:31billion in global ticket sales at the 2019 box office. And get this, there's still more
01:35than five weeks left to go in the year, including the December premiere of Star Wars
01:40Rise of Skywalker, which we have a funny feeling will do pretty well.
