00:00Our first look at the long-awaited series Lock and Key has finally arrived.
00:25Netflix released the trailer for its adaptation of the beloved IDW comic
00:29that tells the story of a family who move into their ancestral home after their father's death.
00:34And the haunting footage offers a look at why Lock and Key has had such a challenging road to the screen.
00:39You can try it on the way, but it's always there.
00:49The series, which stars Scandal alum Darby Stanchfield, has been in the works in multiple incarnations
00:54of various networks and streamers for a decade, starting in 2010, when Steven Spielberg and Alex Kurtzman
00:59attempted to bring the story to the small screen. But the pilot never made it to series.
01:04Then, Universal Pictures picked up the rights and attempted to adapt it as a feature film.
01:08But that didn't move forward either. In 2017, Hulu did a pilot that, despite a lot of internal goodwill,
01:13was passed over. Netflix then swooped in after WME shopped the drama and ordered it to series.
01:19In addition to Stanchfield, the cast includes Jackson Robert Scott of It,
01:22Conor Jessup of American Crime, Amelia Jones of Horrible Histories,
01:26and Bill Heck of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
01:29Whatever you think you understand about those keys, you don't.
01:35The series debuts its 10-episode season on Netflix on February 7th.
