Late-night hosts poked fun at the conspiracy theories surrounding Jeffrey Epstein's death during Monday's episodes of their shows.
Transcript
00:00Donald Trump has changed many things in his life, but there are a few constants.
00:03He's always been a racist, he's always been a con artist, and he's always been a conspiracy theorist.
00:08Several late-night hosts called out President Donald Trump on their Monday shows
00:12for retweeting a conspiracy theory that claimed the Clintons are responsible for the death of Jeffrey Epstein.
00:17The 66-year-old accused sex trafficker who died by suspected suicide in his New York federal jail cell on Saturday.
00:24Epstein was reportedly taken off suicide watch at the Metropolitan Correctional Center
00:27after he reportedly tried to kill himself late last month.
00:31He was charged with allegedly running a sex-trafficking ring involving underage girls.
00:35Over on CBS's The Late Show, Stephen Colbert noted that Epstein's link to many powerful people,
00:40including Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, had some people wondering if he didn't commit suicide,
00:44and there was more to the story.
00:46Colbert explained that Trump shared a tweet and video blaming Bill and Hillary Clinton for Epstein's death,
00:51despite the fact that the allegation had no evidence to support it.
00:54Cabarrus said Trump clearly thinks this is the only logical answer, followed by this Trump impression.
00:59Who had the most to gain from Epstein's death, besides me who was on videotape partying with him and young women?
01:06And who controls all federal prisons?
01:11The President, Bill Clinton.
01:13Over on Comedy Central's The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah also spoke about Trump's conspiracy theory retweet.
01:19The President did this, which is pretty wild.
01:23I mean, because this is the type of moment where you would think the President would be the voice of reason.
01:26Instead, Trump is jumping into the fray.
01:29The host also said that he understood why people were suspicious of Epstein's death,
01:32though he did not think that there was a conspiracy.
01:34Epstein magically only served 13 months for his crimes.
01:38And in that 13 months, he got to leave prison and go to the office six days a week.
01:43That, for me, was the conspiracy.
01:45How did that happen? What was going on there?
01:46And over on NBC's Late Night, Seth Meyers pointed out that Trump has long been a conspiracy theorist,
01:52as he began his political career by promoting the conspiracy theory that President Barack Obama wasn't born in America.
01:58He summed up the state of politics like this.
02:00Paranoid presidents spreading unhinged racist conspiracies while raking in millions from a crowd of mega-rich supporters
02:06who don't care as long as they can line their own pockets.
