Late-night hosts predictably picked apart Michael Cohen's harsh testimony about his experience with Donald Trump to the House Oversight and Reform Committee on Wednesday night's shows.
Transcript
00:00"...individual number one is President Donald J. Trump."
00:07"...Donald Trump?"
00:12Following Michael Cohen's detailed testimony before Congress on Wednesday,
00:16in which he described his experience of being Donald Trump's fixer,
00:19the late-night host had plenty to say on the matter.
00:22The president's former personal attorney told the House Oversight and Reform Committee
00:25that Trump is a racist, a con man and a cheat who knew about Wikileaks' plan
00:29to release emails from the Democratic National Committee server.
00:32That is brand new information!
00:35Cohen also said that he had heard the president make remarks disparaging African-Americans,
00:39saying at one point that black people would never vote for him because they were too stupid.
00:44Comedy Central's Trevor Noah addressed this remark on Wednesday night's Daily Show
00:47with the host clarifying,
00:49No, Donald. Actually, the reason black people wouldn't vote for you is because of your
00:53trash-ass weave.
00:55On NBC's Late Night host, Seth Meyers dedicated his Closer Look segment to Cohen,
01:01noting that it was eventful as,
01:02"...it's not often that you have one of the president's closest personal confidants testify
01:06before Congress about their relationship."
01:08Acknowledging the fact that Republicans were freaking out about Cohen's testimony,
01:12Meyers zeroed in on Congressman Matt Gaetz, who went so far as to attempt to intimidate
01:16Cohen via Twitter by threatening to reveal sensitive personal information.
01:20Meyers showed Gaetz's since-deleted tweet, which asked Cohen,
01:23"...do your wife and father-in-law know about your girlfriends? I wonder if she'll remain faithful
01:27when you're in prison."
01:28Even if it was a mafia thug, the other mafia thugs would go,
01:32Oh! Leave the guy's wife out of it!
01:36Meyers also saw the amusing side to the fact that Trump is currently in Vietnam
01:40for his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un,
01:42while Cohen recited his litany of alleged misdeeds on live television in the U.S.
01:46It's so ironic, Trump finally went to Vietnam and he's getting killed back home.
01:51On TBS, Conan O'Brien also had fun with NBC's coverage of the testimony,
01:55noting that the network provided graphics listing information about a representative
01:59every time they spoke.
02:01I noticed that as the hearing went on and on, the stats became less useful, less helpful,
02:05the late-night host said, using Republican Mark Green's stats as a comedic example.
02:09Yellow belt in taekwondo. Disowned his son for listening to rap. Once referred to salad as
02:16french fries for gays.
02:18Fellow Republican Jim Jordan O'Brien joked that his infographic read,
02:22I'm gluten and immigrant intolerant. Apartment has over 47 wall punch holes.
02:28Once put his penis into a warm pita pocket.
02:31And on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel got right into it, calling the hearing historic.
02:35Michael Cohen delivered an opening statement that somehow managed to mention both the
02:40Holocaust and the porn star, and we were off to the races from there.
02:44Kimmel also brought up the fact that Cohen said he served the president
02:47because being around him was intoxicating.
02:50But not in a bottle of wine, kind of. More of a cocktails with Cosby type of thing.
