Amy Lee of the band Evanescence and K. Flay chat with THR at the 'Ballerina' movie premiere and dish on collaborating on an original song for the film.

00:00How did you approach writing original music for this movie?

00:03Tyler Bates, the composer of John Wick, everything,

00:07came to me and was like, hey, we're friends, but we've never worked together before.

00:11And he was like, I think this is maybe our chance.

00:13Would you like to do this thing and make this song?

00:14And I was like, yes!

00:16So he sent some ideas that were killer right away.

00:19And then for me, I just watched the movie and waited for an idea, and I got it.

00:25There was a specific scene where they're talking about what it means to fight like a girl,

00:31to adapt, to change, and she says that line.

00:33And I was like, that's it.

00:34I've got to make a song about that.

00:36So that way.

00:38And then everything just sort of snowballed into place, and I got to have Christine sing on it.

00:43I'm so happy about this collaboration.

00:45I got to collaborate with Halsey as well on our other song, Hand That Feeds.

00:48So it's just been like a really explosion of creativity and goodness coming from this whole project.

00:55I'm super grateful.

00:56What was this collaboration like for you?

00:59Oh, my gosh.

00:59Well, I've been a fan for so long, and then Amy hit me up.

01:05And we just, I feel like we just immediately understood each other and the vision for this song.

01:12And, you know, Amy sent me the demo.

01:14I was like, see what you think.

01:16I was like, dude, I love this.

01:17I was on tour, and I had like a frustrating show one night.

01:22I had a frustrating thing happen at a show.

01:24And so I got in the green room and just like, I was like, this is time.

01:29And, yeah, you know, there's so much in the film that's like, there's so much material.

01:34There's so much energy.

01:34So it was really like, there was a lot to draw from.

01:37But it's just been such a pleasure.

01:39Like, I love collaborating.

01:41This has been a joy.

01:42It's so rare you get to collaborate with people that you actually, like, really like.

01:46Let's do it again.

01:47I love it.

01:48So good.

01:50In your own words, what does it mean to fight like a girl?

01:52I have, like, a whole page in my iPhone notes of that question.

01:59It means to go without taking credit to get the win.

02:04It means to be long-suffering.

02:07It means to put your ego to the side and never, ever quit.

02:12Never, ever stop getting up.

02:13And you're never going to have that time where it's like, I did it.

02:16I'm done getting back up.

02:17You're always going to be knocked back down.

02:19Keep getting back up.
