Transcript
00:00The first time I became aware of Jim Parsons was obviously through the Big Bang Theory because I'm just like a person in this world, you know, who like pays attention.
00:17He was gay and it was like NBD and that to me was like revolutionary and he was playing this like straight character and like no one ever was like, but he's gay.
00:26He was writing for Thought Catalog for years and so Todd, my husband, went and found all these pieces. You've got to read his pieces.
00:36I don't know what I thought you'd be like, but you were everything I thought you would be like if I could have put words to it.
00:42You were you and you were honest and you were funny.
00:45I had been around like actors and I didn't love them. I found them to be psychotic.
00:55So I was really, really nervous. I was really nervous that he'd be strange.
00:59And I remember my agents were like, well, like I was like, I want Jim. I want Jim.
01:03And they were like, well, Jim's like production company is new. Like we don't really know.
01:07They haven't really had anything yet. And I was like, I don't fucking care.
01:09I like talking to him and I like being around him and like that's literally all I need.
01:13Gay nerds stick together.
01:14I guess so.
01:15Yeah.
01:16There's a blessed lack of control or responsibility. I feel in one way as far as like the way the world is getting this and seeing this.
01:33And I'm kind of able to stand back and watch the fact that the reception has been so positive and so embracing.
01:40The fact that I'm not in it makes it even happier in a weird way than if I were.
01:46And I, I guess I'm just so happy for you.
01:49And I'm so happy that this material that we saw those many years ago and just connected to it, a very visceral sitting in our kitchen reading it way.
01:58Mm-hm.
01:59Is connecting uniquely for anybody who watches it, but as vibrantly and as electrically.
02:06Ryan is a unique voice that is such a talented and colorful writer that it connects whether you have any commonality with his story or not.
02:16There's a really good opportunity to still enjoy it.
02:19When I look at your career, I actually don't know if there's any other model.
02:26You're an out gay actor in one of the biggest like sitcoms in the country.
02:31I just have always liked how you conduct your business.
02:33You're a classy bitch.
02:35But you're also assertive and you kind of know what you want.
02:37Well, these are a lot of the same things that I like so much about you and feel that I connect to.
