'Wicked' star Cynthia Erivo stops to chat with THR on the Critics Choice Awards carpet and talks about her relationship with reviews and shares her strategy for the first time she'll watch 'Wicked: For Good' in full. Plus, she says she's hoping to make it to the first performance of the first Black Elphaba on Broadway.

00:00Congratulations on all of the wicked success. Do you read reviews or how do you

00:05kind of approach the critics side of things? I sometimes like the reviews get

00:09sent to me that's how I sort of like welcome them in if they come to me then

00:14I see them then great I don't necessarily seek them out I think I'm

00:18too much of a nervous character to do that I just I hope and try and do the

00:23work as well as I can and if it works then it works yeah. Wicked for good have

00:27you seen anything have you? Anything and I'm livid about it because I want to see

00:33it. Do you have a plan of like how you want to watch it like by yourself do you

00:38want to be with people? The first time I watched the first movie I just had one

00:44other person with me I kind of needed to see it by myself with like maybe one

00:48other max one other person and then I can see it with other people in a group I

00:52need to have like my first initial reaction where it becomes way way too

00:56overwhelming and then I can like settle and then see it again that's how I want

01:00to see it. And since this has come out I believe we have the first black alphabet

01:04on Broadway I mean what does that mean to see? I want to see if I can be there for her

01:08first for her first show yeah. That would be amazing have you had any

01:12communication or anything? No but you're spoiling the surprise surprise don't watch this

01:21out in in a way. Yeah the timing of that is so beautiful. I'm so pleased I'm really

01:26pleased for her I'm very excited for her I hope she has the most wonderful time

01:30and I'm rooting for her and I can't wait to see it yeah. What has been the best

01:36kind of fan reaction you've gotten from this experience so far I'm sure you've

01:39gotten a lot. I've gotten loads of different types of things I've got some

01:43of the ones that mean a lot of the letters that I've gotten from people where

01:47they talk about how they feel like they connect with Elphaba and they see

01:50themselves in Elphaba and then you can go to the other side of the spectrum where

01:54people are singing the war cry to me in the street you know it's just it's just

01:59that kind of vast difference in in reaction but I kind of love it because

02:03it's so human and so real so that's what I love yeah. It's true you must have so

02:08many people singing at you now. I do and I love it because usually it's me it's

02:12usually me singing at people but now I get serenaded everywhere I go it's nice.
