00:00It's such a big night for Broadway and you're also making your big Broadway
00:04return. Tell us about it.
00:05I am bringing a show and it's a brand new musical that I originated and
00:13conceived of with my partner, my creative partner Tina Landau, the incredible
00:18writer-director. She actually has a mother play this year and it's called
00:23Redwood and it's very special I think and very moving and it's about our
00:30ability to heal and our ability to our resilience and our strength as human
00:35beings.
00:36I love that and you're of course a Broadway icon so I know everyone's
00:40really looking forward to seeing you back on stage. I know for a lot of other
00:45aspiring performers and artists what advice would you give them about
00:49building a career on stage?
00:51Oh, honestly, the advice I would usually give is just to know, just to not change
01:01themselves for anyone and to know that what makes them different and what
01:07makes them unique is the thing that they will get hired for. It just needs to be
01:10the right character, the right story, so just be patient and keep working hard.
01:14I know finally Wicked the movie is coming out this year. Have you had a
01:20chance to speak to Cynthia at all about the production and however those
01:24conversations gone?
01:25Oh yeah, of course. She's been wonderful and I haven't given her any
01:30advice because she doesn't need any advice. I think she's so incredibly
01:34talented. I'm just really proud of it. I'm proud that it's going to reach an even
01:40wider audience. I know it's in wonderful hands with her. She understands the
01:44character and everything the Green Girl's about and I'm just excited to see it.
01:50Very quickly, what is your favorite show on or off Broadway right now this season?
01:55I wouldn't say my favorite because I have friends in so many different ones
01:59and honestly I like so many of them.
02:01Pick a favorite. So everyone just has to see all of them?
02:04Yes, exactly. There's a lot.
