Former 'Lethal Weapon' star Clayne Crawford has broken his silence after being fired from the Fox and Warner Bros. TV procedural.
Transcript
00:00Following his termination from the Fox & Warner Brothers series'
00:06lethal weapon, Clayne Crawford has broken his silence on Instagram.
00:09Hours after Fox & Warner has confirmed he would not be returning for the newly
00:13announced third season, the actor captioned a shadowy photo of himself like this.
00:17To my cast and crew, congratulations on season three. To the fans, thank you for the
00:22overwhelming support and love. Riggs was a dream role and the experience will live
00:26with me forever. My heart is full. Good luck next season.
00:30On Sunday, Fox renewed Lethal Weapon for a third season, with American Pie's
00:33Sean William Scott joining the drama in place of Crawford to star opposite
00:37Damon Wayans in a new role. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Scott may play
00:41the brother to Crawford's Martin Riggs, thus keeping the Murtaugh-Riggs names from
00:45the film franchise alive. Fox execs Gary Neumann and Dana Walden addressed the
00:49Lethal Weapon shakeup on Sunday, with Walden acknowledging that the decision was not
00:53her networks to make, but rather one presented by studio Warner Brothers
00:56television. Without going into all the details that led to Crawford's ouster, she
01:00simply said the studio came to her team and said the show could not continue in the
01:04form that fans had known it for the two prior seasons. Sources tell THR that
01:08Warners opted to fire Crawford after he was disciplined more than once for his
01:11poor behavior. Despite the studio's repeated reprimands, the actor did nothing to
01:15change his behavior, so Warners chose to fire him and would not even consider the
01:19show moving forward with Crawford attached. The actor recently apologized for two
01:23incidents for which he was reprimanded during the second season.
01:25I absolutely love, respect and care for my crew and cast and would never
01:29intentionally jeopardize so many jobs, Crawford wrote. I am incredibly sorry if
01:33my passion for doing good work has ever made anyone feel less than comfortable on
01:37our set or feel less than celebrated for their efforts. Furthermore, I apologize to
01:41all the crew and cast for any negative attention Lethal Weapon is receiving because
01:46of these incidents. Crawford's behavior had left Lethal Weapon, one of Fox's better
01:50performing dramas on the bubble as many connected with the series, including
01:53weigh-in sources note, have said they would rather not work with the actor.
01:56Producers were tasked with finding a new actor to replace Crawford and multiple
01:59stars passed on offers to join the Fox show until Scott stepped in. The Lethal Weapon
02:03character will be his first TV series regular role after the American Pie franchise
02:07and numerous other features. Says Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorne,
02:11Sean is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast. Lethal Weapon is packed with
02:15action, drama and pure fun and we can't wait to see Damon and Sean together on screen.
