00:00Just one week after Victoria's Secret chief marketing officer Ed Razek made problematic
00:05statements about transgender and plus-size models, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed
00:09that the brand's lingerie CEO Jan Singer is stepping down. Singer joined the company
00:14in September 2016. Despite her efforts, Victoria's Secret has faced commercial failure in recent
00:19years, with same-store sales dropping 5 percent in 2018. Amid the rise of lingerie brands
00:25that celebrate plus-size and gender non-conforming customers, such as Third Love and Rihanna's
00:30Savage Fenty line, Victoria's Secret has faced mounting criticism for its lack of inclusivity.
00:36Razek sparked outrage after explaining in a recent interview with Vogue why he doesn't
00:40cast trans or plus-size models in the Victoria's Secret fashion show, which filmed last week
00:45and will air on ABC on December 2nd. According to Razek, whose response included the use of
00:50the outdated and offensive word, transsexual. Trans and plus-size women do not represent
00:55the, quote, fantasy that Victoria's Secret is trying to sell. He later apologized for his
00:59remarks in a statement shared via the Victoria's Secret Twitter account. He said, in part,
01:04"...my remark regarding the inclusion of transgender models in the Victoria's Secret
01:08fashion show came across as insensitive." However, he failed to acknowledge what he said about
01:13plus-size models. Despite his apology, notable LGBTQ and plus-size models, including Gigi Gorgeous,
01:18Carmen Carrera and Tess Holliday, among others, continue to publicly condemn Victoria's Secret.
01:24It's a huge slap in the face. It's extremely astronomically beyond disrespectful that this is real.
