00:00So Russell Brand's documentary, Brand, a Second Coming, opened at South by Southwest today.
00:04In it, you see some of Brand's darker days, some of his happier days, but it was those darker days.
00:09Those were the reason that he decided not to show up for the premiere.
00:12We also talked with the director about that decision.
00:15I know Russell really well, obviously, and I think that one of the most intriguing and beautiful things about Russell is that he embodies so much contradiction, you know?
00:24So on the one hand, he's the most courageous, bravest man I know.
00:26On the other hand, he's still that boy from Essex who's insecure.
00:30Hopefully his feelings will change, and maybe it'll be a cathartic experience for him.
00:35I hope so, you know?
00:36It takes guts, you know?
00:37I love impossible visionaries.
00:39I love people that step out of line, and I always portray them, you know?
00:43And I think that's why he came to me and asked me to make the film.
00:45He didn't want it to be about him, but I said it has to be about you, you know?
00:48It's hard for him to look backwards because he's so dedicated to where he is right now and looking forwards, you know?
00:53And here is a film that pieces together all these uncomfortable moments of his life and also some great victories.
00:59But, you know, it's definitely warts and all.
