00:00I missed you so much.
00:01Oh my God, you guys, hi.
00:03Bethany.
00:04You guys, we're back in Jumanji.
00:06Jumanji The Next Level swings into theaters
00:09on Friday, December 13th,
00:10and the reviews are starting to roll in.
00:12The movie sees the last film's heroes
00:14as they plan to unite over winter break,
00:16after having moved on to separate cities
00:18for college and other pursuits.
00:20As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own,
00:23they discover that nothing is as they expect,
00:26and the game has changed.
00:28Grandpa, eh?
00:29Morning.
00:30Did you guys see Spencer?
00:33Who's that?
00:33I think he went back in.
00:34We gotta go get him.
00:35The squad must explore parts unknown
00:37of the world's most dangerous game.
00:39But what else is different this time around?
00:41Well, according to John DeFore's review
00:42for The Hollywood Reporter,
00:44the twist here is that the mortals
00:45don't become the same characters they played
00:47the last time they entered this world.
00:50Are we in Florida?
00:52Oh my God.
00:53Wait.
00:54We're in the wrong body!
00:56My joints feel like butter.
00:58Ooh, no.
00:59DeFore also writes in his review,
01:01the mission our heroes are given
01:02is even flimsier than the one in the first film,
01:04but it affords many changes of scenery,
01:07from ice mountain castles to North African medinas
01:09to a sea of desert dunes stalked by hundreds
01:12of fast-moving deadly ostriches.
01:14We're not going to make it.
01:15We're gonna make it.
01:16I don't think we're gonna make it.
01:17We're gonna make it.
01:19We're gonna make it.
01:20Oh my God!
01:22Oh!
01:22DeFore continues,
01:23DeFore continues,
01:24given how well the film does with giant,
01:26totally imaginary action scenes like this,
01:28it's disappointing that FX artists
01:30don't try a little harder
01:31to make small-scale moments look real.
01:33The acrobatic exploits of Ruby Roundhouse,
01:35for instance, look distractingly fake at times.
01:38Maybe that's deliberate,
01:39given that this is, after all, a video game,
01:42but it's not at the same level
01:43of believable rendering we see elsewhere.
