The actor last September revealed he began abusing pills after 16 years of sobriety.

00:00Dax Shepard is opening up about how he told his children that he had a drug relapse last year.
00:05During an interview on Chelsea Clinton's In Fact podcast on Tuesday,
00:08the 46-year-old actor said he and wife Kristen Bell are open and honest with their daughters,
00:13Lincoln, age 8, and Delta, age 6.
00:15They knew, like, when they relapsed, we explained,
00:18well, Daddy was on these pills for surgery, and then Daddy was a bad boy,
00:22and he started getting his own pills, and yeah, we tell them the whole thing.
00:26Shepard, who is also the co-host of his own podcast, Armchair Expert,
00:30revealed in September that he relapsed after 16 years of sobriety.
00:34Shepard told Clinton of his daughters they know that Dad goes to an AA meeting every Tuesday and Thursday.
00:39He then shared this story from when his oldest daughter was around 3 years old.
00:42And she said, where are you going? And I said, I'm going to AA.
00:46She said, why do you have to go? I go, because I'm an alcoholic,
00:49and if I don't go there, then I'll drink, and then I'll be a terrible dad.
00:52Shepard went on to say this.
00:53And she said, can I go? And I said, well, no,
00:56you got to be an alcoholic. And she goes, I'm going to be an alcoholic.
01:02And I said, you know, you might become one.
