On Tuesday’s episode of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' Dax Shepard opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about going public about his recent relapse with his sobriety.

00:00The number one thing I was afraid to lose was I take such, I get so much esteem out of being someone who's vocally sober.

00:10Dax Shepard is opening up about going public in his recent relapse with his sobriety.

00:15In September, Shepard shared on his podcast Armchair Expert that after 16 years of sobriety,

00:20he relapsed with narcotic drugs, specifically Vicodin, for roughly eight weeks after suffering a motorcycle accident in August.

00:27Now on Tuesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Shepard is further explaining his decision to go public with his relapse,

00:34saying it was to be honest with his listeners. Still, he says it was difficult.

00:38I have people who write me, I'm month one or I'm week two, and I love that.

00:43But the actor says it was words from a close friend that convinced him to be honest about his struggles.

00:48You know, if your real goal is to help people, it's not very helpful that you're 16 years sober and married to Kristen Bell.

00:55That doesn't help a ton of people.

00:57His friend went on to say,

00:58With that in mind, Shepard said it got a lot easier.

01:07Since his relapse, Shepard shared that he also recently got into fitness,

01:10as he's dedicated his time to strength training during quarantine.
