00:00Here's your breakdown of what to watch this weekend in THR's now screening.
00:04First, THR's chief TV critic, Daniel Feinberg, has his picks of what you should check out.
00:08With May 31st marking the deadline for Emmy eligibility, this weekend brings a rush of
00:13terrific shows. Start with the second season of Rami on Hulu. Rami Yusuf's dark comedy won
00:19Yusuf a Golden Globe in January, and the new run of 10 episodes gets a big boost from Mahershala
00:25Ali as a potential new spiritual advisor for the main character. Nothing comes easy for
00:30Rami, or his family, and the terrific new season mixes religiously infused answer-seeking,
00:36heartbreaking choices, and some really bad decisions.
00:39So what brings you here?
00:41I want to change, and I heard you can help me. Speak the straightforward word, but...
00:47For a lighter option, check out Central Park on Apple TV+, a new animated comedy from
00:53Bob's Burgers veterans Lauren Bouchard and Nora Smith, plus voice of Olaf Josh Gad, Central Park
00:59has a sunny disposition, a tremendous vocal cast, and original songs from the likes of
01:05Sara Bareilles and Cyndi Lauper. It's a much-needed infusion of joy.
01:09Park that's so central, the name's not that clever, but screw it, whatever!
01:15Finally, if it's stars you want, Netflix's Space Force is led by co-creator Steve Carell,
01:21plus John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, Ben Schwartz, and too many other big names to list.
01:27The resulting comedy is a mixed bag, but man, what a cast.
01:31Thanks, Daniel. I recently sat down with the stars of Space Force, including Lisa Kudrow
01:36and Ben Schwartz, who told me why it's the perfect show to watch while we're staying home.
01:40Because it's funny. I mean, just for the cast, I want to watch it.
01:44In terms of quarantine and in terms of where we are right now, I found that the idea of just
01:50making people laugh is a great release of anxiety, is a way to just get joy. I think that this show
01:55is going to be able to really make people laugh.
01:57As far as movies go, The High Note, starring Tracee Ellis Ross as a superstar singer named
02:02Grace Davis, and Dakota Johnson as her assistant Maggie, is now available on Premium VOD.
02:07The film marks the first time Tracee Ellis Ross has ever released music. She opened up to
02:11The Hollywood Reporter about why now was the perfect time.
02:14This part, this role, this movie, this story was special enough that it would lead me through
02:21my fear to the other side, to a little bit of freedom. It was a story that I felt really
02:27strongly about telling.
02:29Until next week's Now Screening, I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter News.
