Rip Torn, the tenacious, temperamental Texan whose much-admired career was highlighted by his brilliant turn as Artie the producer on HBO's 'The Larry Sanders Show,' died Tuesday. He was 88.

00:08Hollywood is mourning the loss and paying tribute to legendary actor Rip Torn, who
00:12sadly died on Tuesday at the age of 88. The actor was well known for his portrayal as
00:17already the producer on HBO's The Larry Sanders Show, which earned him an Emmy nomination
00:21for every one of its six seasons, as well as an Oscar nomination for his role in the
00:251984 drama Cross Creek, as well as other iconic performances.
00:30More recently, the actor had notable roles in the original Men in Black franchise,
00:34Dodgeball, A True Underdog Story and 30 Rock.
00:38His publicist told THR that the actor died peacefully at his home in Lakeville, Connecticut
00:43with his wife and daughters by his side. In the hours following the news, tributes poured
00:47into social media from stars such as Will Smith, Albert Brooks, Seth MacFarlane and
00:52Michael McKean, among others, to show their love for the iconic actor.
00:56Smith, who acted alongside Torn in Men in Black, posted a still of the two together on
01:00Instagram, writing, RIP RIP.
01:02Rob Schneider took to Twitter to pay his respects, saying,
01:11Tom Green, who worked with Torn in the 2001 film Freddie Got Fingered, called the actor
01:16a class act and incredible actor, saying,
01:18one of the greats, a true legend. I'm proud to have worked with him and to have known him.
