Actor Charles Grodin, who charmed audiences with his droll, understated and awkward humor in such films as 'The Heartbreak Kid,' 'Midnight Run' and the 'Beethoven' movies, has died. He was 86.

00:10in Wilton, Connecticut. Grodin vaulted into the public eye in The Heartbreak Kid in 1972.
00:15His work over the years included films like King Kong in 1976, 1978's Heaven Can Wait, 1979's Real
00:23Life and Sunburn, 1980's Seems Like Old Times, 1981's The Great Muppet Caper and The Incredible
00:29Shrinking Woman, 1984's The Lonely Guy and The Woman in Red, and 1988's The Couch Trip.
00:35Grodin perhaps peaked among mainstream movie audiences in 1988 when he starred opposite
00:39Robert De Niro in the action-road comedy Midnight Run. His body of work also includes 1990's Taking
00:45Care of Business, 1992's Beethoven and its 1993 sequel, and 1994's Clifford. From 1995 to 1998,
00:54Grodin hosted an issue-oriented talk show on CNBC. More recently, he was in 2014's The Humbling and
01:00appeared on Louie. He won an Emmy in 1978 for co-writing NBC's The Paul Simon Special. He also
01:06wrote and starred in the 1985 Hollywood set feature Movers and Shakers. Grodin wrote a column for the New
