00:00What you're about to see is a children's TV special, and I made it on purpose.
00:07John Mulaney is bringing his Lunch Bunch to Comedy Central.
00:11The network announced on Tuesday that Comedy Central would be the new home to two upcoming Sack Lunch Bunch comedy specials.
00:18The news comes as a bit of a surprise given that the first Sack Lunch Bunch special dropped late last year on Netflix to rave reviews.
00:24However, Comedy Central is set to have bid far more aggressively for the sequels, which would be an opportune time for the cable network to be back in business with a major comedy player at a time when Netflix has spent lavishly to lock up so much of the market.
00:37Mulaney spoke out about the news in a statement, saying that the move is somewhat of a homecoming.
00:41I was an intern at Comedy Central when I was barely older than the kids in the Sack Lunch Bunch. I wasn't a very good intern, so I'm psyched they hired me again. We are thrilled to bring these specials to Comedy Central, a place where I have had so many good times.
00:53Mulaney, a 16-time Emmy nominee and two-time winner, has been one of comedy's fastest rising stars in recent years, with specials including Kid Gorgeous, Comeback Kid and New in Town.
01:03The comedian's first Sack Lunch Bunch special, a children's musical comedy often described by Mulaney as a passion project that was easier to execute than to explain, debuted on Netflix in December of 2019 and was met with much praise.
01:17The latest move to Comedy Central will include a holiday-themed special that will reunite Mulaney's original cast.
