Transcript
00:00It turns out Norm Macdonald shot one final secret stand-up special.
00:04The comedian privately made a one-hour stand-up special
00:07before he passed away from cancer in September 2021 at the age of 61.
00:12The acclaimed Saturday Night Live actor was diagnosed with the disease in 2012,
00:16but kept his illness private.
00:17He was working on new material for a Netflix special
00:19when he had to go into the hospital in the summer of 2020.
00:23His longtime producing partner, Laurie Jo Hoekstra, told The Hollywood Reporter,
00:26his test results were not good.
00:28So during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic
00:30and literally the night before going in for a procedure,
00:34he wanted to get this on tape just in case, as he put it, things went south.
00:37It was his intention to have a special to share if something happened.
00:41The result was an hour-long stand-up special shot in Macdonald's living room
00:44that the actor filmed in a single take.
00:46As it turned out, he made it through the medical procedure just fine.
00:49But the star became very ill a year later,
00:52before the Netflix special he'd been working on
00:54could be properly filmed before an audience.
00:56Netflix will release the surprise program
00:58Norm Macdonald, Nothing Special,
01:00a title suggested by the late comedian on May 30th.
01:04The program will include clips of Conan O'Brien
01:06and more comedians discussing Macdonald
