Showtime's controversial comedy 'Who Is America?' will not return for a second season, according to star, creator and executive producer Sacha Baron Cohen.

00:15Sacha Baron Cohen's controversial comedic series Who Is America will not return for a
00:19second season on Showtime. Baron Cohen, who stars in the show, which he also created and
00:24executive produced, spoke to THR's Scott Feinberg on the Awards Chatter podcast where he confirmed
00:29a discontinuation of the series, saying,
00:31"...I will never be able to get a politician to bare his buttocks while screaming,
00:34God bless America, and screaming the N-word."
00:37Baron Cohen, who made a rare appearance out of character, also noted that he doesn't
00:41really have other characters ready to go if he would have changed his mind.
00:44"...It's like the LEG show in England. I did one season, and the idea is not to make it a
00:49Seinfeld or an SNL," he said. "...It is grueling. I'm too lazy to do this."
00:53The seven-episode series, which was filmed in secret, featured Baron Cohen assuming multiple
00:57identities to get people ranging from politicians to celebrities to everyday individuals to admit
01:02to absurd things on camera. The show attracted both praise and lawsuits.

01:15Who Is America wrapped its run on August 26 with an average of 3.4 million weekly viewers.
01:19The series helped drive record sign-ups to Showtime's streaming service and ranked as one of the
01:23summer's ratings winners. Baron Cohen could himself be a winner at the 2019 Golden Globes,
01:28where he is nominated for Best Actor in a TV Musical or Comedy for the rule-breaking series.
