A second season of the revival, No. 11 overall, comes right on the heels of record-breaking ratings and a warm reception from critics.
Transcript
00:00Here's the thing. You are weird. I'm weird. This whole family is really weird.
00:07After its successful premiere ratings, the Roseanne revival has already been renewed at ABC.
00:12The next batch of episodes will again reunite original cast members Roseanne Barr,
00:17John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sarah Gilbert, Alicia Goranson, and Michael Fishman.
00:22Other past cast members are expected to make infrequent visits, as they did during the latest run.
00:27There was no immediate word on whether the network plans to have it ready for fall,
00:31but sources say the order has been increased from 9 to 13 episodes.
00:35Roseanne has definitely been a success so far. Its March 27 premiere was the highest-rated
00:40scripted broadcast of the season, and the highest-rated sitcom in more than three years.
00:45The hour-long opener took a 5.1 rating among adults 18 to 49 and 18.1 million viewers in one night alone.
00:53Time-shifting has already driven the episode to 21.9 million viewers and a 6.1 rating after only three days of additional viewing.
01:00Those numbers should see advertising rates climb for the upcoming return.
01:04Now, it's a huge and much-needed win for ABC. The No. 4 network, which trails the rest of the broadcasters
01:10in large part due to its lack of live sports, didn't start its midseason on the best of notes.
01:15The annual Academy Awards telecast, which is the marquee night of ABC's calendar, was at a record low.
01:21And even though the American Idol revival has been a consistent performer, it's not lighting ratings on fire.
01:27But now, the network will finish the broadcast season with TV's No. 1 new drama,
01:31previously renewed show The Good Doctor, and the season's No. 1 series overall in Roseanne.
01:36Both the cast and showrunner Bruce Helford went into the premiere saying that they were hoping
01:41for a second season of the revival, which will be No. 11 for the comedy overall.
01:45Helford told THR at the time,
01:47I don't know that we'd ever go to a 22-episode season. He added,
01:51That's a lot. John and Laurie have movie careers. Everybody has things that they're doing,
01:55so it might be hard to get 22 episodes in. But I would love to do another 10 or 12 on a yearly basis.
