00:12It turns out the story of Liberty High isn't over yet.
00:15Netflix has renewed 13 Reasons Why for a third season.
00:19Season 3 of the controversial teen drama will consist of another run of 13 episodes
00:24and return in 2019. Production will resume later this year.
00:28The core cast, including Dylan Minnette, who plays Clay, Miles Heiser, aka Alex,
00:32and Alicia Bowe, who plays Jessica, among others, are all expected to return.
00:37However, breakout star Katherine Langford, who played Hannah, the character whose suicide
00:42was the focal point of the series, recently announced she would not return for future seasons.
00:46The renewal news comes less than three weeks after the series returned for its second season,
00:51which explored the aftermath of suicide, a lawsuit against the school for its role in
00:56Hannah's suicide, sexual assault, and a thwarted school shooting.
00:59The truth doesn't always make things right.

01:08While Netflix, like fellow streaming services Amazon and Hulu, does not release viewership information,
01:1313 Reasons Why is said to be one of its most streamed original series.
01:17Season 1 of the drama was surrounded by a wave of controversy for its graphic depiction of teen suicide.
01:23While season 2 was not as controversial, many viewers and critics alike still found it problematic
01:29for a storyline in which a male character is sexually assaulted.
01:32This season's episodes were also prefaced with a warning video from the cast.
01:36Still, the decision to continue the series is pretty surprising.
01:40Season 1 focused on Jay Asher's book of the same name and told a complete story.
01:44The drama, from Brian Yorkey and executive producers Selena Gomez and Tom McCarthy,
01:49was considered a one-off, limited series. But Netflix renewed the drama for a second season
01:54following the buzz surrounding season 1, taking the show's story beyond that of Asher's book.
01:59Showrunner Yorkey told THR about his plans for the future of the series ahead of season 2.
02:03With the second season, we feel, as with the first, that we're following the stories of these characters.
02:08I always think there's more story to tell. But I think that depends on viewers and everyone's reaction to it,
