00:00So tell me, how are you? How's life in Oklahoma? What's new at the house? What are you working on?
00:04Everything is good. I've been getting things ready for this fall. You know, I'm a big outdoorsman,
00:10so I had to get all my food plots ready, all the wheat planted and all that stuff for my deer and
00:17turkeys and stuff. And then outside of that, I always try to take the fall off. That was part
00:22of the reason, honestly, that I ended up walking away after so many years from The Voice because
00:28I just got to a point where it's like, you know, I felt like, you know, I checked the box of doing
00:36the job of coach for long enough, and I started getting frustrated because I love to watch my
00:42football every time it's on. So that's Monday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. And we were
00:51filming a lot of those days, and I just got so spoiled, you know, that I was like, man,
00:58why am I working when I should be watching football and hanging out at the ranch? And so
01:03that's kind of what I do now. I'll pick up a few things now and then that I'll go do,
01:09just one-offs. But for the most part, I'm just hanging out at the house in the fall.
01:15That's great, though. Are you planting the stuff for the turkey and the deer so that you can then
01:19hunt the turkey and the deer?
01:20Absolutely. Oh, my gosh. I don't care about their well-being.
01:24I love this. I'll have to show you next time you're in town. We've got this taxidermy wall
01:29at the studio, but it's like all the real messed up taxidermy nobody wants.
01:33Oh, I love that stuff. They're the worst.
01:35Yeah.
01:36I always say, bring me the taxidermy. Your wife won't let in the house. So Luke has sent
01:41me, it's a blind coyote. It looks like it's possessed. I got all kinds of weird stuff that
01:47you would really appreciate it, I think.
01:49I used to have a deer, a fan gave me years ago, and I don't think they gave it to me
01:56as a, look how ridiculous this is. I think it was like their grandpa's deer, but it was
02:02like an old deer head, and it had an arrow, like an old-fashioned arrow that was mounted
02:07like one of those things you put on your head, like Steve Martin used to wear when he'd do
02:11his comedy bit, except it was on the deer's neck. It was like, oh, look, we're going to
02:15mount it with the arrow still. Oh. There it is, isn't it? Yeah.
02:19What happened to that?
02:21It hung in my garage for a few years, and it mysteriously disappeared. So I don't know
02:28who in my family finally said, we're not looking at this anymore.
02:31Right. Brantley brought me one that is a, it's a ram that has got, the ram's like bucked
02:37up in the air, and it's got a saddle on it with a tiny little black squirrel, and the squirrel's
02:42holding a little cowboy hat. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen.
02:48The worst taxidermy I've ever seen. You know those guys, you know Big D and Bubba.
02:52Yeah.
02:53Years ago, they gave me a bullfrog that was mounted that had a possum riding on its back,
02:58like a bull rider with its hand up, and I don't even know how someone thought of this,
03:04but it's...
03:04I was going to say, can you imagine the request of the taxidermy guys you're getting?
03:09Unbelievable. How are Gwen and the boys doing?
03:12They're doing great. Everybody's doing great. Gwen's working on some new things that I'm
03:18sure she'll be announcing soon for this, well, this fall and next year, and the boys are doing
03:27great. Everybody's happy. I mean, we're in a good spot right now.
03:31That's amazing. I'm so happy to hear that. I also want to tell you congratulations. I saw
03:35the CMA nominations. Texas got one for Song of the Year, and then you got one with Post Malone.
03:40I'm so happy for all these kids I'm working with. That's how I look at it now. It's like,
03:48oh man, these kids that wrote Texas, I really hope they win it because when you win a CMA,
03:57you really feel like... I mean, anybody would want to win one, but it really does feel like
04:02the community, the industry has accepted you and they're all pulling for you. And you really feel
04:09that love from Nashville and radio, everybody who makes up to CMA. I'm not even sure who it all is
04:16anymore. Yeah. But I mean, it really does make you feel like, oh my gosh, people are pulling for me.
04:23And that's a good feeling, you know. I don't know. I'm sure Post is... I don't know if he's won a CMA
04:29yet or not. Maybe he's won with Morgan. I don't know. But if he hasn't, that would be pretty cool
04:35to share that with him. Right. I was going to say, did you hear from him at all when that happened?
04:40You know, Post is one of those guys. I don't hear from him unless I've ran into him somewhere.
04:46And then we'll text each other for like two days afterwards. And then it's kind of radio silent
04:52again for a while. But normally my texts from Post say something like, hey man, are you still awake?
04:59Come down here and meet us. We're at, you know, wherever he is that night. It's like, no,
05:03I've been in bed since 930 Post. For six hours. Yeah. I was laughing because there was this video
05:09that went viral of Jelly Roll, like telling Post Malone, thank you for taking me on tour on stage.
05:13And it was, you know, Jelly's up there like preaching to Post Malone. And I have to say
05:17all this to your face because if I text you, you won't text me back.
05:22I thought that was so good. It's true. I can't imagine how many texts in a day
05:26Post Malone must get though. So in his defense, like he's like Ferris Bueller of the music industry.
05:32Like he's done, he's got favors. He's done stuff for everybody. Everybody loves him,
05:38but all genres. So I can't imagine he must, his phone must just be on fire.
05:44Oh yeah. I'm sure that it is. Let's talk about your new single,
05:49Stay Country or Die Tryin'. What did you think the first time that they sent you over this song?
05:53You know, I fell in love with it because,
05:55and it's, I don't think it's probably anything new to anybody who's followed my music. I love
06:03songs that, that kind of present themselves as, as an anthem, you know, and, and that's
06:09definitely a song that qualifies for that. It's like, it's one of those songs that it's just kind
06:15of a, there's a lot of visuals and the, and I think the purpose of the song is just to get you
06:22fired up about whatever it is, you know, whether you're about to, you know, do your radio show that
06:28day. It's like, Oh yeah. So, you know, I'm going to, I'm going to do it and I'm going to die doing
06:32it. You know what I mean? It's like, uh, I, I, when I was in the studio, I thought, man, if I was,
06:38if I was a football player, this would be the song I would crank up right before I walked out on,
06:42onto the field, you know? There you go. I mean,
06:45did you get that pitch for what SEC football or something like that? Of course, of course.
06:50Love that. You also announced that you are headed back to Vegas in 2026. What are you excited
06:55about to go back and do this again? Well, I loved, I loved it the first time. Um, and I,
07:01and it surprised me because I was a little bit, uh, nervous about whether I would enjoy it or not,
07:08because I've, I've always just played, you know, we've never done more than we made a few times in
07:13my career. We've done like back to back nights at some market or venue or something, uh, you know,
07:20back in the day, but I've never just had like a full on residency anywhere, you know? And so I
07:27just thought my fear was that I was going to get bored with it or, or just antsy to let's, let's get
07:33out of here. Let's go to the next place, you know? Uh, and I didn't, I, it's just the opposite. It's
07:38like, man, why, why would we ever go back to the, you know, the other way? I mean, this is great.
07:45You know, I literally wrap up the show and go to the, to the hotel room and just do it over again
07:51without, you know, driving down the road and the bus and getting slammed against the wall and the
07:56ceiling. And I just, I used to be good at that and I'm not as much anymore. So I really loved the,
08:04the Vegas experience. And it amazed me from night to night, how different the crowds were
08:09personality wise. And it didn't always have to do with, with the day of the week. I think it
08:14probably has more to do with what convention is in town that night. You know, you can say it's like
08:20an arts and craft convention versus like, you know, a beer, you know, promotion or something,
08:28you know, you can tell by the, by the crowd, how they act, what must be going on in town that week.
08:32I'm dead. I never thought about that. Yeah. That would be whatever it is. That would dictate what
08:37had the level of like, what the crowd is crazy. I haven't timed it yet with one of those porn
08:42conventions. That would be great. If we could overlap that with my resident, just to see
08:48what ends up in the crowd. You know what I'm saying? I thought you were going to say like
08:52NFR or something. No way. No way. Yeah. Foreign. Oh my gosh. The Vegas show was so much fun. I had
09:00a blast at that. I definitely like want to come out and see that again. And I feel like you're always
09:04running around having a great time on stage. And I always love to ask like, what are some of the
09:08most embarrassing things that have happened to you on stage? Well, I usually do something that
09:15embarrasses at least my crew every night. But I, for me, I remember, and I, this is on the internet
09:23because I've seen people still make fun of me for it. You know, one of my favorite things to do is
09:28watch Brad Paisley when he tripped and fell off the stage that time. I think he even broke a rib,
09:32which isn't funny, but the actual fall was funny because he ran for, you know, a hundred yards before
09:39he bit the dust. I hope Brad's hearing this. Right. But I did something similar. I was,
09:48believe it or not, I was doing a show with Pit Bull in Pendleton, Oregon. And I think my fiddle
09:56player was doing a solo and I was trying to back up and just get out of the way. And I backed into the
10:01drum riser. And, and, you know, for me, that's like the back halfway up my calf. So it's perfect
10:07to, to trip, trip me. And so I just kind of fell and I landed and then I rolled off. Like I look like
10:13a, you know, just a turtle, you know, up there trying to get up. You're real tall guys. It's a long way to fall.
10:20Yeah. And then I'm, I have a hard time getting up when I fall down. It's like, I can't just hop up.
10:25It's like, I have to roll over and then get on my hands and knees and then stand up. It's not,
10:30it takes a minute, you know? And so it's not like I could fall and nobody noticed it because
10:35after, you know, 30 seconds of me trying to get back up, people finally realized, oh my God,
10:41he's drunk or something. He, he, oh my God. And I probably had been drinking, but I did honestly
10:48fall. So that was hysterical. How was playing with Pit Bull? I saw him play before Tim McGraw at a
10:54festival once, and it was the most electrifying thing I've ever seen. Yeah. You know, I've done a lot
10:58of work with, with Pit Bull at this point. We even had a record together a few years ago.
11:04He's the, he's the greatest. I mean, he's the happiest guy you've ever met. And he's the most
11:11professional. I'm telling you, if he was on this interview right now with you, he would have full
11:17on like suit jacket on, you know, like he is, he is the opposite of me. You know, he, he's just shows up
11:25ready, ready for business. And, and he's just a super hardworking guy. I love that guy.
11:31He's so funny. I saw him at a festival in Florida and he was playing and it was like this crazy thing.
11:36And he's like, everybody, Mr. Will Black. He's like, I want to introduce you to my friend. And
11:40he's like, say hello to John Travolta. John Travolta walked out. Like, I swear to you,
11:45it was the craziest thing I've ever seen. I was like, what?
11:48What, what did John Travolta do when he came out? Did he's like,
11:52waved and then walked back off? I guess that's all you have to do if you're John.
11:57And then Tim McGraw had to go out and play after this. I'm like, Tim must've been like,
12:00what on earth is happening? It's not fair. Oh my God. So funny. And then I was looking at the show
12:07that you have been working on with Taylor Sheridan. The road is going to premiere next month. By the time
12:11this airs, it will be airing. What have you like, what has been early feedback from this that you've
12:16found really encouraging or exciting? Well, the only feedback I'm getting is all, you know,
12:22the, the promos that are running on CBS and Paramount right now. I mean, if the show doesn't
12:28do well, I can't say that they didn't do their part, which is great to have a, you know, a partner
12:35like that. The show itself is, it's just, it's very insightful. Like if you, if you, if you watch it,
12:44watch the first episode or second episode, you'll realize the way we film this is, you know, it is,
12:50it is about the music, but it's also about what's going on back there. Like what's, what are the
12:57other contestants feeling in the moment that someone else is performing and, and knocking it
13:02out of the park at the same time? You'll, you'll see and hear these guys going, oh my God, like
13:07we're screwed. That's it for us. Or thank God, you know, he or she messed that up because this
13:15might be my, my window, you know? Uh, and so you'll just see the ups and downs of, of actually
13:21being out there opening, uh, for, for Keith Urban and, and, and in different places across
13:27the country, instead of just in a studio in Hollywood, you know? Uh, which by the way is,
13:33is also a very high stakes and pressure situation to be in is just a completely different, uh, you
13:41know, Avenue that, that a lot of us took along the way to, to make it. That's what Keith and I did
13:46and Gretchen, you know, we played the bars coming up, uh, only because there wasn't those shows back
13:53then, or I'm sure we would have lined up to be on one of those. Or you've been on TikTok doing
13:57little dances. Oh my God. I would have loved to, to had TikTok back then. Right. I know one of the
14:03things that Keith mentioned to me that I am so excited to see that I've seen in the promos is
14:07just the way that Taylor shot this, that it looks so different, like, so documentary style. It's
14:12beautiful. So cinematic, I think, you know, uh, and, and that's, that's Taylor's thumbprint. You
14:18know, it's, it's one thing to just, you know, see his name up there. It's like, Oh, another Taylor
14:23Sheridan show. But when you, when literally, when you look at it, you go, Oh my gosh, it does.
14:28It already just looks different, you know, and that's that my brain doesn't work that way,
14:34you know? And that's why I'm so glad he's, he's a part of it. Yeah. It's really exciting. I can't
14:38wait to watch more of it. Um, so while you're on the show, we will also, it'll be black Friday,
14:42but we're going to have Blake Friday instead. Okay. I'm going to talk about like, what are your,
14:47what are your three favorite things? Like if someone was like going to package up
14:50gifts for Blake Shelton, what's going in it? Katie, I love corn. I love, I love to plant corn.
14:58I love bags of corn. I love corn chips, corn tortillas, cream corn. I love the cream corn.
15:05It has jalapeno in it. I love corn on the cob. Uh, and so just anything corn. I love people
15:12sometimes will throw like a little stuffed animal corn on the cobs on stage. I had a song on one of
15:17my records a few years ago called corn and I'm obsessed with corn. I don't know what else to say.
15:24Have you seen the little, the video of the little boy who says that kid? I love that kid. That kid's
15:32like, like my hero. I wish he had merch. I would buy that kid's merch. Unbelievable. I'm sure we can
15:39find you some. All right. So corn is one. What else? Oh, wow. You know, you can use corn to make
15:46vodka. Uh, I knew this is where that was going. Yeah. And, and so for Blake Friday and it's the
15:52weekend, uh, if someone out there wanted to, to, to buy me something, or if I wanted to buy myself
15:59something, it would maybe, you know, in the vodka category, you know? All right, great. And then one
16:07guy, Katie, I'm a simple guy. I know you are. What's the next one? I'm sure like an outdoor
16:11piece vehicle, your Kubota. I know you're always out in that. No, that's pretty much it. Corn and
16:16vodka. I know, I know you really needed to fill this segment. You know, I have, I've got, I'm set
16:24up with all my Kubota stuff. I can load all that. I can load all my corn and vodka into the back of
16:29one of my Kubota buggies. I'm good there. Oh my God. This is going to end up being an SNL skit or
16:35something. Oh my gosh. All right. And then the last bit of this Thanksgiving stuff. So who would you say
16:40is the worst cook in country music? Anybody ever make you a bad meal? Uh, I would say Dustin Lynch,
16:46you know, uh, because, uh, he's, he's, uh, I've spent a lot of time around Dustin. I had him out
16:53on tour with me. Uh, and I, he's actually came out to the ranch and hunted with a, with a group of guys
16:59one time. And he really doesn't contribute, uh, in any way, you know, he's more, Dustin's a guy that
17:06he's, you know, even when he's hunting, you know, he spent 45 minutes in front of the mirror
17:11that morning, you know, getting his camo, making sure the patterns are right. That's the right,
17:16you know, that this green shirt isn't more faded than these green pants. And he's just,
17:22that's Dustin, you know? And so I can't imagine him ever cooking. He didn't, I've never seen him
17:28cook. So I'm just going to go ahead and throw his name out there. Screw him when it comes to cooking.
17:32Okay. Oh my God. What? I can't wait to hear what Dustin Lynch did to you. It doesn't contribute
17:38anything. Yeah. Oh my God. All right. And then what does Gwen cook every year that you look forward
17:44to for Thanksgiving? Well, she's always looking for, for new things. And I, and I do look forward
17:49to that because every now and then she hits on something that's like, oh my God, please don't
17:53forget this. And of course we always do. Uh, but I love, uh, I, I love just dressing. I mean,
18:02I could live on that stuff for the rest of my life. Like I won't allow her or anybody to throw
18:07it away. Like, even if it's like four days old after Thanksgiving, it's, I still eat the, uh,
18:15and it's usually just the stuff that comes in a box, you know, like I can't remember the name of
18:21the brand or whatever, but that's my favorite. Like it's, as far as like a recipe, I love those,
18:26those, uh, baked macaroni and cheeses. Uh, you know what I'm talking about? That's got like
18:31bread, breadcrumbs on top. Love that stuff, man. In the Midwest, we always make cheesy potatoes and
18:38then they get like the cornflake crust on top and that. Oh my God. I love that too. That's my,
18:43that's my favorite holiday, by the way. It's absolutely my favorite holiday. Why is it your
18:49favorite? It just has been since I was a kid. You know, I grew up in a, in a really big family with
18:54lots of cousins and aunts and uncles and thanks. So Thanksgiving was, was the one where, because for
19:00Christmas, a lot of them would go off and do their own Christmases. You know, Thanksgiving was the one
19:05holiday that there would be like a hundred people there. Uh, and, and, uh, we would all get together
19:10and I just looked forward to love, but I love food. Honestly, I just, I love food.
19:16You and me both. What are you thankful for this year?
19:18This sounds corny, but I'm just thankful for my family. I mean, uh, you know, we're all,
19:24just healthy knock on wood. Uh, and, and, and it feels like everybody's in a good spot.
19:32And, uh, and I'm really thankful for that. The older I get, the more I realize, you know,
19:38if you don't have your health, uh, you don't have anything. And, and, uh, uh, so far so good for us
19:45right now. That's great. I am totally with you on that. Like every little new ache and pain that comes
19:50and goes, I'm like, Oh God, just live until the next one. That's right. That's right.
19:55All right. And then what is your famous Blake Shelton hangover cure?
20:00Katie, you got to go right back in again. I mean, that's, that's the truth. You got to go
20:06right back in. I sit out here. It wasn't, uh, uh, two days ago. Uh, my brother-in-law Todd was here and,
20:12and, uh, he had gotten into, to, uh, the crown the night before and he was struggling. He stayed
20:18here at the house with us. Uh, and Sunday morning we were watching, uh, football together and I
20:23looked over, he's got the puffy eyes and he's just frowning. And I just went and got him a beer
20:28and said, man, you just, you just got to go back in again. And sure enough, 30 minutes later, he said,
20:34you know, that worked. I'm, I'm back. Now that doesn't mean that Monday he didn't,
20:39didn't have the same problem again. I don't know. I didn't see him on Monday, but it did get him
20:43through Sunday. Just kicking the can down the road a little bit further. Yeah. I've heard people say,
20:48you know, uh, what's the, uh, pedialyte or, you know, I, I even sang once about Gator, uh, you know,
20:54Gatorade. And, uh, I just, you just got to go back in again. It really is the truth. Blake,
21:01thank you so much for doing this. I think this is going to sound so much fun. Um, and to complete the
21:05whole story, we are going to go out and get rip roaring drunk at old red, just to have a girl,
21:10Katie, bring it on home. Thank you to see you, but you look great in camo, by the way, and you
21:15look, you're rocking it. You are going to roll your eyes. When I tell you where this camo is from,
21:19you might hang up. What? No, you're probably from like, well, the gap or something like that. I
21:24don't know where girls shop. Abercrombie and Fitch. Okay. Of course. I don't care though. I'm still proud of
21:30you. Thank you.
