The franchise's star made multiple appeals to both Disney CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman during negotiations.
Transcript
00:00We always knew Tom Holland was a real-life superhero, and now this proves it.
00:11The Peter Parker actor made a last-minute appeal that helped seal the Spider-Man deal between Disney and Sony.
00:16You gonna be the next Iron Man now?
00:18Well, no, I don't have time. I'm too busy doing your jobs.
00:20What? I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Look, keep up the good work.
00:23Back at the end of August, the long-simmering spat between Sony and Disney slash Marvel over Spider-Man reached a breaking point.
00:29And according to a source, any partnership between the two for a third installment of the Holland-fronted franchise was, quote, 100% dead.
00:37But never fear, a hero is here. Sources say that Holland himself made multiple appeals to both Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution,
00:48showing them the outpouring of fan support for a third movie.
00:51Then it was announced on September 27th that Marvel will produce a third Spider-Man movie for Sony,
00:56and the character will appear in at least one additional Disney and Marvel film.
01:00Are you going to step up or not?
01:03As for the terms of the deal, Disney will earn 25% of net gross on a third Spider-Man opening July 16th, 2021, and chip in 25% of the budget.
01:16And given his hand in the deal, it's no surprise Holland posted this celebratory video from Wolf of Wall Street on Instagram with a smirky-faced emoji when the resolution was announced at the end of September.
01:26The show goes on!
