00:12Hey guys, it's Ali for Hollywood Life with a movie roundup, starting with The Matrix 4.
00:17Variety reports one half of the Wachowski duo is set to write and direct the fourth film,
00:22with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity.
00:27The Matrix first hit theaters 20 years ago and was followed by two sequels,
00:31a couple of video games and spin-offs like The Animatrix.
00:35When speaking about the upcoming fourth film, director Lana Wachowski told Variety,
00:39many of the ideas Lily and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now.
00:45I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.
00:51Production for The Matrix 4 is expected to begin in early 2020.
00:55And now let's talk about Peter Parker, because as if losing Tony wasn't enough, spoiler alert,
01:00now it looks like he will have to leave all his superhero friends behind.
01:04Yesterday afternoon, news broke that the web-slinger's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
01:09was doubtful due to Marvel and Sony's inability to agree to new terms for co-producing the franchise.
01:14Deadline was the first to report the heartbreaking news with Variety following up
01:18and reporting a deal might still be reached, but there are currently no talks going on.
01:23However, The Hollywood Reporter said Sony Film Studio Chief Tom Rothman and Marvel President Kevin Feige have been talking for months.
01:31In the end, neither party was willing to cede enough ground to come to an agreement leading to the breakup of the partnership
01:37and the removal of Feige from his producing role on any future Spider-Man movies from Sony.
01:42Adding to this, Sony Pictures took to Twitter to release an official statement about all the conflicting reports.
01:47Sony said,
01:48Much of today's news about Spider-Man has been mischaracterized recent discussion about Kevin's involvement in the franchise.
01:54We are beyond disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live-action Spider-Man film.
02:01Sony went on to say they hope the decision will change in the future and thanked Kevin for putting them on a good path,
02:08which they will reportedly continue to follow.
02:10And despite Sony placing blame on Disney's doorstep, many fans still took to Twitter to call for a boycott of all things Sony,
02:17including PlayStation 4.
02:19Many fans also used their time on social media to mourn the potential loss of Tom Holland's Spider-Man,
02:24even though there have been no reports that he is leaving the role.
02:27In fact, Tom has reportedly signed on for two more solo films with Sony, hoping to lock in director John Watts again as well.
02:34At the time of this recording, Tom has yet to react to any of the news.
