Sony Pictures is vowing to carry on the 'Spider-Man' franchise without Marvel Studios’ involvement, placing the blame on Disney for cutting the successful inter-studio cooperation short.

00:00Spider-Man is officially being booted from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now
00:13Sony is coming out saying Disney is to blame for the fallout. It was reported on
00:17Tuesday that Sony and Disney have parted ways on the revived Spider-Man movie
00:21franchise. Disney and Sony had previously entered into a rather unique partnership
00:26that allowed Marvel to produce the new Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland. This
00:30complex arrangement also allowed the hero, whose movie rights are controlled by Sony, to
00:34appear in the MCU such as Marvel's Captain America Civil War and two of the Avengers
00:39movies. Many reports have suggested that the fallout was due to studio chiefs Tom
00:43Rothman at Sony and Alan Horn at Disney not being able to agree on a financial
00:48arrangement to continue the collaboration. But now in a statement obtained exclusively by
00:52The Hollywood Reporter, the studio says the decision was ultimately up to Disney and
00:57noted that they're disappointed that Marvel president Kevin Feige will no longer act as
01:02the lead producer on the film franchise. A Sony spokesperson released a statement regarding
01:06the news and noted that the Marvel president may just have too much going on, saying,
01:11"...we hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities
01:15that Disney has given him, including all their newly added Marvel properties, do not allow
01:19time for him to work on IP they do not own." Sony Pictures is, however, still vowing to carry
01:24on the Spider-Man franchise, but unfortunately it'll just have to be without Marvel Studios'
01:29involvement. Sony just announced on Monday that Far From Home had surpassed Skyfall to become
01:34the studio's most successful release, with a worldwide haul of $1.109 billion and counting,
01:40and the film will be getting a re-release over Labor Day weekend with four minutes of additional footage.
