00:00You directed an episode of the show. What was it like? Oh, I didn't. What was it like stepping
00:05on set and directing these? Absolutely amazing. It's been so much fun. It's always so great to
00:11step onto a set when you have the kind of leaders that Selena and David Henry and Mimi are as the
00:17adult cast really setting the tone for what it's going to be like to work on the show. They're all
00:22so inspiring, so motivational, so talented, so hardworking, and also really allow the kids to
00:28take care of themselves and trust their instincts. It's been wonderful. Girl Meets World really set
00:34the tone on how to do a sequel right on the Disney Channel, I feel like. What do you think it was
00:39about that show that really resonated not just with fans of Boy Meets World but brought in a whole
00:43new audience of young fans? I think it's so important to understand that the show needs to have room for
00:49the kids to be the stars. Of course, David Henry is a megastar. Of course, Selena Gomez is a megastar,
00:55but these kids also need the opportunity to form their own characters and to have their own voices
01:00and to become personalities of their own. And if you are constantly reminding the audience of what
01:06was before and not allowing a new thing to grow, sometimes that's not going to work. In this case,
01:11everyone's going to be absolutely impressed with this new cast. It's really great.
01:16Speaking of megastars, Sabrina Carpenter has just had such an amazing year. What's it been like,
01:21especially just this past year, this like skyrocket trajectory that she's been on?
01:25I know. I mean, it's a dream come true. And yet also, I never for one second thought it wouldn't
01:31happen. It's just, it's just, yeah, it's happened. And here it is the moment we, the moment we always
01:36knew was coming. And she deserves every bit of it. She's just the kindest, most hardworking,
01:42most thoughtful, funny, amazing, everything you think she is, she is and more. And so it's been really
01:49joyful for me, for the world to just get to see a little bit more of the person I've known for over
01:53a decade now. I love that so much. And sort of a serious question. There's been a lot of headlines
01:57this past year with things like Quiet On Set about people having kids having bad experiences in
02:03Hollywood. Being an adult on set of shows like Girl Meets World and now Wizards Beyond Waverly
02:07Plays, how did you work to ensure that the kids on these shows have a positive experience?
02:11Well, I think parents being incredibly involved and the parents, thankfully, of all the shows I've been
02:16able to direct for Disney Channel. The parents are all very involved. They're all very much there.
02:19That obviously is a huge help. But also fostering an environment where there are no secrets. There
02:24are no closed door meetings. Everybody's involved in everything. Like I said, the leaders of the sets
02:30are so much more mindful and involved that it makes that a lot easier.
