00:00Vanessa Lachey is set to make history in the latest NCIS spinoff on CBS.
00:05Lachey will star in NCIS Hawaii, becoming the first female lead of a show in the long-running franchise that began with JAG in the mid-1990s.
00:13CBS gave a straight-to-series order to the spinoff.
00:16Lachey's character Jane is the first female special agent in charge at NCIS Pearl Harbor.
00:21She's described as a woman in a male-dominated profession who's thrived in a system that's pushed back every step of the way.
00:26She's also a mother, raising her children mostly on her own.
00:30The series will follow Jane as she and her team balance duty-to-family and duty-to-country while investigating cases involving military personnel and national security.
00:38Yasmin Al-Bustami and Jason Antoon have also signed on as series regulars.
00:42This news comes as NCIS Los Angeles was recently renewed for a 13th season, and Mothership series NCIS was renewed for a 19th season, with lead Mark Harmon set to return.
00:53The JAG and NCIS franchise spans more than 1,000 episodes and a combined 47 seasons to date.
00:58As for Lachey, her recent credits include Call Me Cat on Fox and the holiday movie Once Upon a Main Street, as well as co-hosting Love is Blind on Netflix.
