00:05Rachel Lindsay is calling out The Bachelorette over the casting of her season.
00:09Rachel, who has distanced herself from The Bachelor franchise in recent months,
00:13is continuing to pull back the reality TV curtain on her role as the first Black Bachelorette in 2017.
00:19When Rachel appeared on Z-Way's new Showtime series, the host asked Rachel about a variety of topics,
00:23from how she taught her now-husband, Brian Abisolo, to be a Black hair ally.
00:27Um, I just had to be very upfront with him. I had to, like, give him a crash course.
00:33That meant from, see, right now, it's not weave, it's a wig. So I let him take my wig off.
00:39To about the fact that the three Black Bachelors and Bachelorettes, who have starred on the franchise
00:42so far, Rachel, Tayshia Adams, and Matt James, have all ended up with partners who are not of color.
00:48Lindsay said the fact some viewers criticize the stars for this highlights how unfairly people
00:52of color are held to certain standards that their white counterparts aren't. However,
00:56she also said, a problem lies in how the franchise cast the show. She revealed,
01:00there was a point where I broke down on camera and they used my tears for something else,
01:04but I was getting upset at the selection of men of color. I also learned as I was going through
01:08my season that several of the Black men on my season didn't date Black women. She went on to say,
01:13that's why I've been speaking out about the franchise, that you don't need to just diversify
01:17your cast and your leads, you need to diversify the people behind the camera.
