00:00Darren Criss is set to star in and write songs
00:02for a new musical comedy series at Quibi.
00:04The actor is the latest in the long list
00:06of high-profile talents to set a series
00:08at the short-form streaming platform
00:09that's set to launch in spring 2020.
00:12The Jeffrey Katzenberg-founded company, Quibi,
00:13is also developing scripted and unscripted shows
00:16from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Idris Elba,
00:19Guillermo del Toro, Lena Waithe, and Lorne Michaels,
00:21among others.
00:22As for Criss, after the actor won an Emmy for his work
00:25in the assassination of Gianni Versace.
00:27So what brings you to Miami?
00:28I know people.
00:29Oh yeah?
00:30Versace.
00:31He will now star in, executive produce,
00:32and write original songs for the musical comedy series
00:34titled Royalties.
00:36The show follows the ascent of a ragtag songwriting duo,
00:39Criss' character Pierce and Sarah,
00:41as they navigate the strange and hilarious challenges
00:43of creating a truly great song week after week.
00:46The satirical series will also feature
00:48real-life music personalities playing fictional
00:50and ridiculous pop stars who work with the two lead characters.
00:53So it'll be interesting to see who pops up.
00:55Criss is also co-writing the series
00:57with longtime collaborators Nick and Matt Lang
00:59of Team Starkid, the musical theater company
01:01and YouTube channel that fans know they co-founded in 2009.
01:05The actor is known for his multiple talents
01:07as he broke out in glee thanks to his vocal chops.
