Over four months into the union's strike over its expired film and TV contract, the WGA told its members, "The WGA and AMPTP now have a confirmed schedule to bargain this week, starting on Wednesday. 00:00Negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are set to resume on Wednesday.
00:08Over four months into the union's strike over its expired film and TV contract, the WGA told its members on Monday,
00:15the WGA and AMPTP now have a confirmed schedule to bargain this week, starting on Wednesday.
00:21You might not hear from us in the coming days while we are negotiating, but know that our focus is getting a fair deal for writers as soon as possible.
00:27We'll reach out again when there is something of significance to report.
00:31The Guild also encouraged members to show up at picket lines, quote,
00:34for yourselves and fellow writers, SAG-AFTRA, other unions' members, and all those in our community who are impacted by the strikes.
00:41The AMPTP, which represents studios and streamers in these negotiations, confirmed the date.
00:46Official bargaining over a new contract has been at a standstill since August,
00:50but the apparent stalemate between the two parties was broken Thursday when the AMPTP announced that the WGA had reached out to resume talks.
00:57The WGA confirmed only that the two sides were attempting to schedule a new meeting.
01:01The news of the fresh momentum and discussions took quick effect,
01:04with the previously scheduled meeting for Friday between Guild leaders and top showrunners like Kenya Barris and Noah Hawley
01:10getting canceled as a result of the development.
01:12This news comes after numerous showrunners took to the picket line at Fox last Tuesday in solidarity.
01:17I, like everybody, am frustrated with how long this has been dragging on, but there's an enormous amount of solidarity here.
01:28I think it's really time for the AMPTP to get back to the table and make a deal.
01:32Let's take this seriously.
01:34I think people are hurting.
01:35It's really a long and painful strike, and they have the power to end it, so they need to get serious.
