Alex Borstein talks to THR about reuniting with the cast of 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' on the red carpet for the Emmys and reveals she's only seen three episodes of the show.
00:00I remember at the 2022 Emmys, you all had just finished filming the final season.
00:05Here we are now at the delayed 2023 Emmys, but how does it feel reuniting with the cast and celebrating the final season?
00:11It all kind of feels like a fever dream. It really does.
00:14Like, I can't believe it was only five, six years ago when we did the pilot, and I can't believe we are at the end.
00:22I can't believe that was a year ago that we finished shooting the finale.
00:26It's been over a year, but yeah, it just feels kind of like a crazy fever dream, and I know a year from now, it'll be even more so.
00:35I'll be like, was I really on that show? I have saved watching it.
00:40I've only seen the first two episodes of Maisel and the last, and I'm going to start watching it with my daughter right after the SAG Awards next month.
00:48As soon as it's all done, I'm going to start watching it.
00:51I love that. That's going to be so amazing to see it through her eyes.
00:53It is. She's old enough now, and I'm far enough away from it to not judge myself harshly.
00:59Now that some time has passed, is there anything you miss about playing Susie that you're surprised that you miss?
01:05I can't say I'm surprised, but I miss the ability to not edit and just say what you want to say and say what you think and not worry about consequence.
01:15Because it was, you know, a time before social media, a time before you could be held to what you said forever and ever and ever.
01:22As I was watching the final season, I was nervous that Midge and Susie were not going to reconcile, and I was so happy with how the show ended.
01:30How did you feel about the ending and what we saw in that final episode?
01:32Honestly, when we first saw the scripts, I was terrified. I was not sure this was a good idea.
01:39Like the time jumping and age makeup, and how do I do that? And who is Susie in 20 years?
01:45And that's a lot to think about. And then you watch, you know, the finale is what I saw, and you're doing those scenes, and it was right.
01:53Oh my God, it's Amy Sherman Palladino. My next question, actually, is great to have Amy here.
02:00I just wanted to, like, steal your moment and tell you, like, look at this.
02:03Stand with me.
02:04I'm sorry, have we panned down? Because it's a...
02:07I feel like we should dump our significant others and run away together.
02:10I think so. I think it's time.
02:12I was just talking about how I was scared to death when I saw those first scripts of the last season,
02:16because I didn't understand how you could have seen and known it was going to work, and it did.
02:23Well, you don't know, and then you think, well, it's Alex, so how bad could it be?
02:30That takes a lot of chutzpah and balls to say, we're going to do this jump around in time. That was insane.
02:37I know, but it's the last season. You've got to do a little, you've got to up the game.
02:41But I think it was very satisfying.
02:43It's the major multiverse.
02:45Yes.
02:45It was everything, everywhere, marvelous at once.
02:48There you go. Not bad.
02:50Speaking of the multiverse, is there a world where we could ever get more of any of these characters in some way
02:56in a spin-off in another series?
02:57I did not put her up to that question.
03:00There's a $20 bill sticking out of her back pocket.
03:04There's always a chance for everything in the world.
03:07We could drop dead in five minutes, or who knows?
03:11But if she does not ever foresee a future for Susie,
03:14I will be in Times Square dressed as her.
03:17Constantly?
03:17Every New Year's Eve.
03:19Next to the Naked Cowboy.
03:19Yes.
03:19Yes.
03:20Yes.
03:20That would be amazing.
03:22Could you imagine?
03:23Just in the outfit, you and the Naked Cowboy.
