Transkrip
00:00The summit is therefore closed.
00:06In fact, the entire year, meetings have taken place in our own country and elsewhere in the world,
00:15including at the United Nations, supporting the presidency of South Africa of the G20.
00:22And we've met in the face of significant challenges and demonstrated our ability to come together,
00:32even in the times of great difficulty, to pursue a better world.
00:39South Africa's presidency marks the first time, as we have said, that the G20 has been hosted and held on African soil.
00:48We are truly honoured and humbled by that, not only as South Africans, but as Africans as a whole.
00:58Recognising the importance of this milestone, we have sought to place Africa's growth and development interests at the heart of the G20's agenda.
01:10The greatest opportunity for prosperity in the 21st century lies in Africa.
01:20Harnessing that opportunity will require a rather strong partnership between Africa and the G20,
01:30and indeed between Africa and the rest of the world.
01:34Recognising our interconnectedness as a global community of nations,
01:41we have called for an end to conflicts and wars around the globe,
01:48and for a just and comprehensive and lasting peace.
01:53This summit has taken place at a crucial time,
01:57as calls around the world grow louder for progress on the imperatives of our time,
02:07to end poverty in all its forms and ramifications,
02:12to reduce inequality within and amongst countries,
02:18and to take urgent action to combat climate change.
02:23This year, we have recognised the growing debt burden that is faced by many developing economy countries
02:33as a major obstacle to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
02:41The G20 has pledged to extend support to low- and middle-income countries
02:48as they confront debt vulnerabilities.
02:51Together, we must create a virtuous cycle of reduced debt,
03:00higher public investment,
03:01and more rapid and inclusive economic growth.
03:06When we become more successful, all of us,
03:12then the whole world becomes successful.
03:16When we began our presidency,
03:18we pledged to mobilise the G20 to strengthen disaster resilience and response.
03:27Climate-induced natural disasters spare no country.
03:34Disasters know no borders.
03:37But their toll is heaviest on those without the means to recover and to rebuild.
03:43We therefore called on G20 leaders to urge the global community to scale up post-disaster reconstruction.
03:54In this regard, South Africa introduced the high-level voluntary principles for investing in disaster risk reduction
04:04and encouraged international collaboration to strengthen investment in preventing and responding to disasters.
04:15We have made progress in mobilising finance for a just energy transition.
04:21Climate change touches every nation,
04:25but it impacts on everyone,
04:29That is why we have together pledged to increase the quality and the quantity of climate finance
04:41to developing economies,
04:44to strengthen multilateral development banks,
04:47to support country platforms like the Just Energy Transition Partnership,
04:53and to unlock private capital.
04:56We reaffirmed our dedication to energy security,
05:02affordability and universal access,
05:05and the importance of supporting developing economies in their transition to low-carbon emissions.
05:13We recognise the need for deep, rapid and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions,
05:23and the need to substantially scale up investment and climate finance from all sources.
05:31During this summit,
05:33we reaffirmed our support for the G20 Critical Minerals Framework,
05:40a cooperative blueprint to ensure that critical mineral resources
05:46drive prosperity and sustainable development across the globe.
05:51Our Presidency coincided with the end of the first cycle of the G20 Presidencies.
06:01Following the mandate given to our Presidency
06:05at the 2024 Rio de Janeiro Summit,
06:10we undertook the G20 at 20 Review,
06:15drawing on the diverse perspectives of participating members and guest countries as well.
06:25It is our hope that the recommendations of the review will serve as a helpful guide
06:33for the G20 to ensure that it remains fit for purpose in an ever-changing world.
06:41In fact, the indicative report already says that the G20's existence should continue
06:51as it serves a good purpose in giving guidance to the economic well-being of the world.
06:59At the heart of our Presidency lies a conviction that the G20 must act boldly
07:06and act together to create an environment of inclusive growth,
07:14an environment of reduced inequality,
07:19an environment which will support sustainable development.
07:25South Africa has used this Presidency
07:28to place the priorities of Africa
07:31and the Global South firmly at the heart of the G20 agenda.
07:38Building on the developmental agenda of previous Presidencies
07:43in Indonesia, in India, and Brazil,
07:49we have prioritized the issues that matter most
07:54to developing economies.
07:57and in executing our task as the G20 President,
08:05we learned a lot from what Indonesia did,
08:09what India did,
08:11and what Brazil did.
08:14So in many ways,
08:16what we see having unfolded here
08:18was based on the foundations
08:22that those three countries of the Global South put in place.
08:28The G20 South Africa Summit leaders' declaration
08:32is more than words.
08:35It is a commitment to concrete actions
08:38that will improve the lives of people in every part of the world.
08:44Our agreement on a declaration during this summit
08:50demonstrates the value of the G20
08:53as a forum that can facilitate
08:56joint action on issues of shared concern.
09:02Shared concern not only for the leaders,
09:06but shared concern for the peoples of the world.
09:12More than that,
09:13it reaffirms our renewed commitment
09:16to multilateral cooperation
09:19and our recognition that our shared goals
09:23outweigh our differences.
09:27Together, we must accelerate progress
09:31towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
09:36of the United Nations
09:37and the Pact for the Future.
09:40We have laid the foundation of solidarity.
09:45Now we must build the walls of justice
09:49and the roof of prosperity.
09:53Let us move forward together,
09:57demonstrating to the world
09:59that we do have the capacity
10:01to confront and overcome the world's challenges
10:07through partnerships,
10:10across society,
10:12and by remembering our common humanity.
10:15We can create a more secure,
10:19a more just,
10:20and a more prosperous world.
10:23And together,
10:24we can ensure that
10:26no one is left behind.
10:31I now say that this gavel,
10:35this gavel of this G20 summit,
10:40formally closes this summit
10:44and now moves on
10:47to the next president
10:49of the G20,
10:52which is the United States,
10:54where we shall see each other
10:56again next year.
10:59The summit is therefore closed.
11:01of the G20 summit,
11:02so I want to give you a kiss.
11:12Thank you very much.
