00:00A Warisan leader has criticized Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul for suggesting that Sabah's youth could succeed if they are brave and hardworking.
00:10Sepanggar Warisan's Deputy Chief Ahmad Jais Otong described Johari's comments as shallow and insulting,
00:17saying it ignored decades of systemic neglect and the siphoning of Sabah's natural wealth by the federal government.
00:24Jais, who is Warisan's candidate for the Karambonai seat in the November 29th state election,
00:29said Johari's stance that those who are hardworking can succeed, seemingly blame the people of Sabah for poverty created by federal policies.
00:38He highlighted several persistent issues facing the state, including dilapidated roads, inadequate schools, unsafe and unclean water, frequent power outages, limited job opportunities, and low wages.
00:51Jais was quoted as saying by the Justin Times that young people in Sabah cannot climb the ladder of success because the ladder itself has been sought down by Putra Jaya.
01:02At a campaign stop for Pakatan Harpan in Putatan yesterday, Johari acknowledged that many Sabah youth start from an uneven playing field,
01:10but stressed they still have the chance to succeed, adding that no one in Malaysia is denied opportunity,
01:16and that if you are hardworking and brave enough in taking action, there are no barriers in life.
