00:00Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamza
00:05has defended Air Borneo following public complaints that the new airline's ticket prices are too high.
00:13Karim said the fares cannot be viewed in isolation,
00:16as Air Borneo must be allowed to stabilise its operations without undercutting other airlines,
00:22according to Dayat Daily.
00:24He was quoted as saying that if prices are lowered too much,
00:28causing other airlines to leave and avoid Sarawak because everyone chooses Air Borneo,
00:33then the airline itself will be the one to suffer.
00:36Karim acknowledged social media complaints that routes such as Cebu to Kota Kinabalu and Cebu to Kuching,
00:43which cost more than RM200 were too expensive, but said the idea of an ideal price is subjective.
00:51He added that airline ticket prices of around RM200 might be acceptable to some such as businessmen,
00:57but for farmers, they could feel expensive.
01:00Karim urged the public not to jump to conclusions,
01:03adding that prices will adjust once Air Borneo's operations mature.
