00:00First order of business, we got Grisham in the fold, so that's one of our big hitters and
00:05defenders is back. So that solves one area of our needs, but we have two big important free agents
00:12that left us. Grisham was one, Bellinger was another. We'd love that Bellinger come back.
00:16I talked to Scott Boras yesterday about Belly and other free agents of his. I've talked to
00:21Casey Close today about his free agents. He's got Kyle Sucker, amongst others.
00:28So, you know, that's the nature of the beast in the winter. You play it out and you talk to the
00:35different teams. I had several conversations with teams today. Got to find a way to make a trade
00:40or add a free agent. Keep going and keep going and keep going. So the team that we had last year,
00:48which was really good on paper, but fell short of our ultimate goal, you know, is now depleted
00:54because of free agency. So we got to find a way to at least get back to where we were
00:58but the ultimate goal is to make it better. So got a lot more work to do and the whole
01:04way to do it.
01:05I'm not surprised. I kind of thought 50-50 going into it. We made the offer. We wouldn't
01:10have been surprised if he turned it down because it's a very weak outfield market. But he's behind
01:18Tucker and Bellinger and those will take more time. And once they get signed, then obviously
01:23that's when the vacuum of teams have lost out but didn't, you know, start engaging fully.
01:32So he'd have to wait on that. So sitting at 20, looking at 22 million where I wait and board
01:37the bet on board number two. So it was one of those like it was a close call. We made the
01:42offer because we thought if he takes it, we'd be fine if he took it. We'd be excited that he's
01:46coming back because we believe he's capable of representing what he did this past year.
01:52But I wasn't surprised he took it. I wouldn't have been surprised if he didn't take it either.
01:55I mean, it gives us a little bit more comfort going in because now instead of being the two
02:00outfielders down, you know, we have the kids Jason Dominguez and Spencer Jones. Now we have
02:06Jason Dominguez and Spencer Jones competing. And we have Grisham and we have Jones, right?
02:11Before that, you know, it was just Judge and the two kids, which was a lot of uncertainty.
02:17Now we have a lot more certainty. And so I can play with making it more certainty by bringing
02:23in other pre-agents if we can find the matches we want for a trade. Or if not, the fallback
02:30would be those worst case scenario, those two kids fight it out and may the best person win
02:34and see where that takes us too. So Grisham coming gives us some security and comfort
02:41right now that one big piece is already taken care of.
02:45Nobody was necessary specifically. But yes, we have concerns in the beginning. Our rotations
02:51on paper are going to be really good when healthy. But we start the season with throw it on or
02:55pull, covering from their surgeries. So they won't start probably till May. And because of
03:01that, obviously, there's some vulnerability in the front end of the season with that. So
03:05I can fortify the rotation a little bit. And you want to make sure the other guys stay healthy.
03:10I mean, that's always a risk. We got some good young bucks pushing up.
03:14So you saw what Cam Slipper did. Then we got other guys behind the scenes, but they're making
03:18a name for themselves, ERC, Lomane, to name a few. But ultimately, I think, yes,
03:25important pitching, both on the rotation and in the bullpen. We lost Weaver and Devin Williams
03:29out of the bullpen to free agency. And those guys were important pieces to build bridges
03:33to get to our closer, Bednar. But we got a lot of work in it. We got a lot of work in it.
03:38I mean, I thought he deserved it. I know that there was a lot of players that had amazing
03:44years. But obviously, when you do the dissect of the year Judge had, I mean, he was the one
03:50that should have won it. I didn't know how it would play out. And sometimes it plays differently.
03:54But I thought that the real winner could have been Judge, and he got it. So I took my cap to
04:01him. You know, I kind of attacked him immediately, and I wasn't surprised. But at the same time,
04:06you can't ignore what could get you in Seattle, too. You had a hell of a year, something to be proud of.
