00:00Trent Grisham has accepted the qualifying offer, which means he is back with the Yankees for $22
00:05million. I think there were some Yankees people that were somewhat surprised by this decision.
00:11Not going to say all of them. I think several understood that this was a realistic possibility.
00:16I suggested back at the end of the season that they don't offer it to him and that they use
00:21that money elsewhere. Obviously, Grisham had a fantastic season, so you can't really
00:26knock him in any sense. He had 34 home runs. 21 of those home runs came on the road, so
00:32it's a legit excellent season. He did it under 200 the three previous years. He did not play well in
00:39October, and for those reasons, I said I don't think they should offer him that $22 million
00:44qualifying offer. Does this affect their ability to sign Cody Bellinger? I mean, that is a big
00:51question right now. It certainly doesn't affect their ability to pursue Cody Bellinger, and they
00:56will pursue Cody Bellinger and hope to sign him, but now if they have Cody Bellinger, who's going to
01:02make presumably around $30 million plus $22 million for Grisham, how much money does that leave for the
01:09bullpen for maybe an extra starter to fill maybe a little bit on first base? Big question there,
01:16because we don't believe they want to go way over $300 million. They were a little bit over $300 million
01:20this year. They might have to. I mean, they may have no choice. I understand they aren't the Dodgers.
01:25I understand they have limits, but, you know, they're going to have to put together a better
01:29bullpen. They need a lefty in that bullpen, and they do need to firm up some other areas of weakness.
01:35I do think they do need a starter, and I do think that they'd still love to bring back Cody Bellinger.
01:40I do believe they will pursue Cody Bellinger, so this doesn't affect the pursuit of Bellinger. Does it
01:45affect their ability to sign Bellinger? We shall see. That is a $30 million, perhaps a year question.
