00:00Who is Dwayne Johnson after the Smashing Machine?
00:05Wow, I love that question.
00:13I think I'll take a crack at it.
00:16Dwayne Johnson after the Smashing Machine
00:18is a man who is more attuned with himself.
00:26And now that I have experienced the Smashing Machine
00:29and I can tell you firsthand
00:31for the first time in my life on film,
00:37I was able to explore my own past pain and trauma
00:42and put it somewhere.
00:45I had not done that before.
00:47This was very new to me.
00:49My friends who are these great, wonderful actors,
00:53we would talk about it.
00:54We would talk about the privilege it is
00:56to expose yourself and go there.
00:59And to be honest with you,
01:01I was nervous about doing that for many, many, many years.
01:07Until now, until the Smashing Machine.
01:09So it changed my life.
01:11Smashing Machine changed my life.
01:12And it really gave me, it unlocked something for me
01:14that, oh, okay, I can explore this and put it somewhere
01:19and I can transform and I can disappear
01:23through great prosthetics and, you know,
01:27where otherwise I didn't know if I could do it in the past
01:30because I look how I look, you know,
01:33and so it changed my life.
01:36It's a great question.
01:38Thank you.
01:39This movie is also talk about fragility, vulnerabilities.
01:44Has Hollywood ever forced you to wear a mask
01:48or have you always felt free to show your vulnerabilities?
01:53No, I haven't always felt free to show my vulnerabilities.
01:57That's a great question.
01:59Because if something works well in Hollywood,
02:03they want to continue to do it.
02:04For a long time,
02:07for a long time,
02:11the material that was coming my way
02:13was not the material that allowed
02:16for fragility, vulnerability,
02:20and strength to live in the same room.
02:25No, just strength, humor,
02:30galvanizing everybody together
02:32and go save the world.
02:37But fragility, vulnerability,
02:39ability, emotionality,
02:42going deep,
02:45that was not the material that was coming my way.
02:49But by the way,
02:50I also, it's important
02:51because I don't want to make it sound like,
02:55oh, they weren't giving it to me.
03:00This is on me.
03:02Like, I believe that I was,
03:05I may say I wasn't getting that material,
03:07but I also wasn't manifesting it.
03:08I wasn't ready for it.
03:10Now, because you asked such a great question
03:13in the beginning,
03:14who am I now after the Smashing Machine?
03:17Is someone who's more attuned with that
03:19and more sensitive to that
03:21and to make sure that,
03:23because there is space for the bigger movies,
03:26Jumanji and Moana,
03:29there's space for that.
03:31And they're a lot of fun.
03:33But now also,
03:34what's important just as an artist,
03:37as a creative
03:39is to make sure that I'm still doing things
03:43and these things are for me
03:45and that I'm making this thing
03:48that I'm making solely for me
03:51and I'm giving everything
03:53that I have into this thing
03:55and then I deliver it
03:58and then I will move on
04:00to the next thing.
04:01And then I'll do this.
04:02Thank you.
04:03I'll do this.
04:04All right.
