00:00Vonna's showing up.
00:01We still haven't heard from her.
00:02Vonna has not wanted to do anything with the family.
00:05I haven't heard nothing from her, so.
00:10Tonight, I am having dinner with Alex and Emma.
00:13What's the deal?
00:14Like, why haven't you been around, like, us in the family?
00:16Y'all have a phone, y'all can text me, y'all can talk to me.
00:19We're mad at you for the things you haven't been doing.
00:22To end this conversation, I'll come around.
00:25Trying to end the conversation, because when we're
00:26going in circles as a family, it doesn't end good.
00:29Why is, like, the problem between you mom and dad
00:30affecting all of us?
00:34Today, we are going to show Elizabeth and Bryce
00:37the plot of land that we purchased in our neighborhood.
00:40You and Bryce can build on and be close
00:44to both sets of grandparents.
00:46The biggest advantage of taking the land
00:48is the fact that we would be saving money.
00:50Our cons are pretty much we're simply
00:53staying in the same neighborhood as our parents.
00:56Is this lot something that you guys
00:58would want to build on and live for the next 15, 20 years?
01:14If y'all want to be in the same neighborhood with your mom and dad,
01:17Bryce, and Amber and I, it would be convenient for you guys and for Layton.
01:23My parents surprised us with purchasing a lot of land in the same neighborhood
01:28as both of our parents for the possibility of Bryce and I to build our home on it.
01:34Even though Bryce and I are desperate to be in our own home,
01:38we don't necessarily imagine it being in the same neighborhood as both of our parents.
01:43Or if you guys don't want to do that, then it's something that dad and I can hold on to
01:47for a couple of years and turn around and sell.
01:50Bryce and Elizabeth contemplating the decision on accepting the gift is...is...is...
01:56It's understandable.
01:57Understandable.
01:58My biggest thing is I wanted to stay here for schools.
02:00That's why we moved here for y'all's schools.
02:03Even though I am grateful for this piece of property that they wanted to give to us,
02:08I'm also a little bit on the downside to being in the same neighborhood.
02:12It's literally, we can walk to their house from here.
02:16It's got everything I want for Layton.
02:18School, family, safety.
02:20So this is ultimately where we have to simply just think about Layton
02:23when it comes to a decision like this.
02:26You know, my goal is to have her in a home by her second birthday.
02:29We know that this neighborhood is safe and it would be a great place for Layton to be raised.
02:33I mean, I have everything off the list.
02:35So it's a done deal.
02:41I'm going ahead and saying, yeah.
02:45It was a tough decision, but ultimately, I think we made the right one.
02:50I appreciate it.
02:53I get the hug out or the backslap.
02:55Now that we have accepted this piece of land,
02:59now it's pretty much meeting with the builder, figuring out what kind of house plan we want,
03:03getting a good idea of how much that plan would cost,
03:05and making sure that we're financially ready for this,
03:08and ultimately just being happy with all of our decisions.
03:12Well, at least we got a short drive home.
03:14Hey, Em.
03:25Yes?
03:26Can you come here?
03:29I'm just packing up some last minute things for Ohio.
03:32Yeah?
03:33You excited?
03:33Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
03:34I always have a fun time up there.
03:37So right now, I'm packing up for a trip to Ohio, and I'm super excited to see Allie.
03:41Allie's parents are always surprised I could pack this much stuff just to carry on.
03:47Is this all? How many days are you staying?
03:49Four.
03:49Oh, okay.
03:50Just a t-shirt for each day, I'm there, two pairs of pants,
03:53deodorant, underwear, I'm good.
03:54For a four-day trip, I pack four pairs of underwear just to be safe.
04:00I mean, I feel like that's what most people do, though.
04:01Four pairs or am I just an overpacker?
04:04If I was going on a trip for four days, underwear amount would have to be probably five or six.
04:13Four to five pairs of underwear.
04:15Underwear has two sides. You only need two.
04:18I would pack probably four or five pairs of underwear.
04:22What if you fart and you accidentally that's one underwear down?
04:25It soaks through your pants.
04:26I haven't grabbed my pants in ages.
04:30My dad did it like three weeks ago.
04:34Allie excited?
04:35Yeah, she's excited to have me up there for a few days.
04:38I think we're going to go on a hay ride, go out to lunch, and of course,
04:42the main reason I'm going to help out their dad with harvesting crops this year.
04:46Oh.
04:47So I've been to Allie's farm a few times, but this will be my first time helping out with the harvest.
04:51I've been interested in farming ever since I was a little kid.
04:54I just have a lot of respect for farmers because they put food on our tables.
04:58So I think it's cool that I'll have a girlfriend who's also into farming.
05:02Are you going to drive one of their—do they have tractors?
05:04I'm probably just going to ride with Allie.
05:06No, I don't trust myself in the big tractor right now, so I'm going to let them teach me.
05:09Maybe next year I'll drive.
05:10Oh, my gosh.
05:10Alex, I mean, the kid has always, always loved tractors and farming.
05:18And it's really very fitting that this is how this has all worked out for Allie.
05:23I'll be helping them for a few days with harvesting.
05:25That's going to be fun.
05:26Yeah.
05:27It's kind of a long process, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in person for the first time.
05:32Yeah.
05:33Would you possibly, like, one day move up there with Allie?
05:36We've had this talk a few times, and she seems pretty set in stone on
05:40staying up there, so—
05:41We'll leave all of us?
05:42I'll still come and visit, obviously, but her parents' rules that we have to be married
05:46before we can move in together, so—so that's quite a long ways out.
05:50Out of Alex and Allie, Liz and Bryce, and Jonah and Ashley,
05:56the couple that will be engaged first will be Liz and Bryce.
05:59They got a jump start.
06:01Yeah, that's true.
06:02Yeah, but if Alex goes before me there, it's going to be a severe problem,
06:06and Ashley's going to be really pissed.
06:08I mean, I don't disagree with that.
06:10I agree.
06:11I at least want to get through college work, though,
06:14at college before I start moving up there.
06:17We'll see.
06:20I can't believe it.
06:22Good lord.
06:23It's always busy for us, and it's almost Halloween, and Alex is going to be heading up to Ohio.
06:40But before that, the family is going to be coming together to celebrate Poppy's heavenly birthday.
06:46Poppy is my father, and he passed away eight months ago.
06:51We have decided to do something special to celebrate his first heavenly birthday.
06:58After Poppy passed away, we all decided that it would be a great way to remember Poppy by planting a tree in the backyard.
07:04Come on, come on.
07:05There you go.
07:05A little bit more.
07:06A little bit more.
07:07Please, Lord, come on, Poppy.
07:08Come on, Poppy.
07:08It's the beginning, babe.
07:09It's great.
07:10Unfortunately, that is pretty much the last time we have all seen Anna.
07:14She has not been over to the house since that day.
07:17That looks pretty cool.
07:18Yeah.
07:19We have picked out a rock, and we decided to etch out Poppy's name on this rock to kind of
07:26place at the tree as a marker.
07:29Are we ready to start taking the thing over?
07:32It's little, but it's heavy.
07:33Yeah.
07:35It's very dwarf.
07:36This rock weighs 150 pounds.
07:38It's not like super heavy, but it's like picking us up.
07:41Everybody thinks we weigh 60, 70 pounds.
07:43No, I'm 140 pounds, 145 right now.
07:47God.
07:48We're very small, compact, very dense, and we feel like we weigh 200.
07:51Liz, I wouldn't move out of the way.
07:53I'm here to guide Dad.
07:55Well, the worst they could do is land in the pool and be in the bottom of the pool forever.
08:00Because nobody's getting this off the bottom of the pool.
08:01Why don't you go the other way?
08:03Yeah.
08:04What about if we get on the end and push?
08:07Because you're, I don't want you to break the steps.
08:09I don't want to break the toe.
08:10Those steps aren't going to break.
08:12Yeah, that's just the fun part.
08:15Oh, God.
08:16Should that hand truck handle would have flown up and hit me in the chin.
08:23Poppy would have heard some language today that he would not have approved of.
08:26We did it.
08:30All right, Emma.
08:32You take it down the hill.
08:33Oh, my gosh.
08:34I let her go that way where it's not so steep.
08:37I was going out there and I'm like, I'm not doing all this work.
08:40So I told Emma, hey, come over here and take the rock down the hill.
08:43I would try to go slow.
08:46So who thought of this idea?
08:50Why are we like crab walking?
08:52Squat legs.
08:54I told you, you don't have to push it.
08:56I'm not pushing it.
08:57I think the trolley was actually pulling Emma.
08:59Yeah.
09:00It was pulling me.
09:02It's not a trolley.
09:03It's a hand truck.
09:04Sorry.
09:05The hand truck was pulling Emma.
09:06I just put it right outside the edge right there.
09:08Yeah, that's what, like right, right there.
09:10Yeah.
09:11Right here.
09:11Now you just got to spin it around.
09:12Spin it around.
09:13Somebody help me.
09:15To remember Poppy on his first heavenly birthday, it's not a sad time.
09:20I think, too, it's a time that it allows for everyone to really celebrate and devote time
09:27to talk about him, especially in that first few years of their passing is part of, you know,
09:33the healing process.
09:35Poppy was always someone, too, that helped others and that taught his family to always be there for
09:42your family.
09:44I definitely think there are times like this where my dad does miss having me, Jonah, Anna,
09:49Alex, and Emma all together. But I think my dad is learning that this is nothing that they can force
09:55on Anna. It's going to take her to want to make the change.
09:58We all say happy birthday, Poppy.
10:00Happy birthday, Poppy.
10:01And I'm sure any holidays, birthdays, any big celebrations is when he'll think about it.
10:07But at the end of the day, it's her decision.
10:20I made it to Ohio, and I cannot wait to see Allie.
10:33Hi.
10:34Hello.
10:34It's nice to see you again.
10:37It's good to see you.
10:38How was the flight?
10:40It was good. It was really short as usual.
10:42That's good.
10:42Yeah.
10:43Do you want to come inside and we could just stuff away?
10:46Yeah.
10:46And get the weekend started?
10:51Tomorrow is the first day of me helping out the harvest.
10:53Part of me is a little bit nervous, so I'm going to see if I have any farmer potential.
11:00Nope, stay, dog. Stay.
11:01What you waiting, what you waiting for, no every day there's a big white corn outside your door.
11:16So I'm visiting Allie and her family on the farm, and today is the first day of me helping out
11:20with harvest.
11:20Let's go shell some corn.
11:26I have helped with the farming in the past, but it's been like a lot of smaller jobs like running to
11:30get parts for the tractors. I haven't really helped on this big of a scale with the harvest.
11:37Allie's family grows corn and soybeans, and today we're going to be harvesting some corn.
11:42Let's do this.
11:43You guys good?
11:44Yep.
11:44Okay.
11:44As long as she knows what she's doing.
11:47I hope so.
11:49So as we were walking up to the tractors, they were pretty big.
11:51I mean, like I'm used to my dad's small lawn doors.
12:00I've made something to see, drive your tractor all over me, yeah.
12:13You ready?
12:14Uh, yep.
12:15I'm not.
12:16Allie seemed really confident with the tractors, so that made me feel confident about the whole day.
12:21All right, start her up.
12:21Ready?
12:22Yep.
12:25Tell me when.
12:28We're ready.
12:29Okay.
12:30I'm Allie's father, and we're out here harvesting corn today.
12:36The way we do it is I drive the combine, and Allie drives the tractor in a grain cart that follows
12:42alongside so we can unload as we are harvesting.
12:46This is so cool.
12:46This is my first time seeing this.
12:48Like, from what I've seen, I haven't touched any of the floor pedals.
12:51No.
12:51So that's good.
12:52In the grain cart, we don't have any pedal extenders or anything.
12:57It's all hand controls.
12:59It's all on the iPad and stuff, so I don't have to use my foot or anything.
13:03When I first did it, it was nerve-wracking, and it still is nerve-wracking, even though I've been
13:08doing it for like two years now.
13:11If I get scared hauling a little trailer behind my truck, I can only imagine what it is like
13:14hauling that.
13:14I would say it'll take him, like, another year to learn for him to do it all by himself.
13:22Oh, he's ready to unload.
13:23All right.
13:24Show me what to do.
13:26This part, you have to concentrate, because you don't want to go too fast or too slow.
13:33Yeah, exactly.
13:34That's my fear.
13:34So Allie needs to get this part right.
13:36Like, she needs to be perfectly aligned with Adam and his combine, because if she's too close or too far
13:42from the combine, the corn will spill and spill into the field, and that could be an expensive
13:47error, because once that corn is spilled, it can't be used anymore.
13:53Make sure you get your mind up.
13:55Oh.
13:56It's bumpy sometimes.
13:58Oh.
13:59So yeah, this is like the high-pressure part of, like, what we're doing.
14:02Get a little bit closer to me.
14:06Get a little closer to him.
14:08Although I probably shouldn't do anything, because you know what you're doing, so I'll keep it all shut.
14:12Allie did the job perfectly.
14:23No corn was spilled, and everything came out good.
14:25I did have a few moments of, like, wow, my girlfriend can really do this.
14:29Looks like we're about done now.
14:30OK, you guys, go put that on the Kenworth.
14:34Got it.
14:34When the cart gets full, Allie unloads into the semis, and then they take the corn to
14:42the next place, where they either export it or it gets sold for feed.
14:47Put the auger down.
14:49Coming from a family of all little people, like, all of us proved that we can basically do anything
14:54an average nice person can. So it was really cool seeing Allie operate the heavy machinery on her
14:58farm like all the rest of her farm workers can.
15:01OK.
15:01I definitely feel like I learned a lot today in the grain cart with Allie.
15:09She made it all look pretty easy. I think she's doing pretty good.
15:12I mean, I guess there is something pretty attractive about a woman who knows how to
15:14operate heavy machinery.
15:15All right. Good deal. How'd that go?
15:19Good.
15:20It's good.
15:20Didn't spill anything. That's key. Didn't spill nothing.
15:22All right.
15:23Good job.
15:26So after a full day of harvesting today, I think I would definitely consider this as,
15:30like, maybe my future job because, I mean, I would not mind working for Allie's dad.
15:33Yeah.
15:34I think it would go pretty well with some more teaching.
15:36We would like it.
15:37We would like the help.
15:40You made it look easy.
15:41OK. Good.
16:05So Halloween is almost here, and we decided to do a cute little photo shoot with Layton.
16:11Since Halloween will be her last first holiday since Layton was born on November 3rd.
16:17So what better way to do it than sticking her in a pumpkin and hope she smiles?
16:23I put all the blame on this idea on Lolly.
16:26Lolly wanted to stick Layton in a pumpkin after seeing some pictures.
16:30Other things that we've done for Layton's first holidays.
16:33Bapa and Lolly brought some snow to the front yard for Layton's first Christmas.
16:41I can't snowball it.
16:43We attempted a Valentine's Day craft with her foot.
16:47Yeah.
16:48OK.
16:48That works.
16:49Daddy-O dressed up like a bunny for Easter.
16:53Let's see if she'll reach out at you.
16:54So we had a lot of good first holidays for Ladybug.
16:58It was fun.
16:59Let's strip her out of her onesie.
17:02I know.
17:04So do I just need, like, just, like, leave her?
17:06In her diaper.
17:08I'll come help you.
17:11Hey.
17:12Since Layton has been to daycare, she has gotten quite sick a couple of times already.
17:17She's battled a couple of ear infections, and we've battled some respiratory infections.
17:21So me being a stay-at-home mom is definitely still on the table because we definitely don't
17:26want Layton sick all the time because it does take a damper on her personality.
17:31We don't want that.
17:32We want the happy little Ladybug that we have, pretty much.
17:35Try to stick her legs through the hole.
17:38All right, girl.
17:39Layton!
17:45You might help her get her feet through.
17:46Layton!
17:50Take her pass you up.
17:51Layton!
17:54Oh, no.
17:55Oh, this is so sad.
17:57Layton!
17:58Yay!
18:00We have never put our kids in a pumpkin.
18:07I so wish I would have, especially Elizabeth.
18:11Like, she would have been so damn cute.
18:13Alex, I think, would have been okay.
18:14No.
18:15I was too old for that.
18:17Anna and Emma were definitely not babies when we adopted them.
18:20They were four and a half and five and a half.
18:22They definitely would not have fit in a pumpkin.
18:24Jonah would have been...
18:26Ada thrown up in the pumpkin.
18:27Yeah, he did not like any of that.
18:29I don't think I'd ever want to, uh, sit naked in a pumpkin.
18:36All right, we're done.
18:37Good girl.
18:40You so not like it?
18:41Nope.
18:41You so not like it?
18:43No.
18:44That was a fail.
18:44Give her the passy.
18:46Give her the passy.
18:48Babe.
18:49I definitely feel like if she was feeling good,
18:51I feel like she would have liked it.
18:53She would have probably failed to maybe try to put her mouth in.
18:55I know.
18:55I really thought she would have been the kid to try to, like,
18:57bite the pumpkin.
18:58But since she's not really feeling the best, she...
19:01Wanted mom and dad.
19:03That's it.
19:03Yeah.
19:04Be hailed at mom and dad.
19:05Layton, you want to look at your photos?
19:09The pictures didn't turn out the best.
19:12Oh, you're too nice.
19:14They were awful.
19:15Sad.
19:15Melted your heart.
19:16She's probably even going to laugh at her own pictures.
19:20No, we're definitely going to do a first birthday party.
19:24Mm-hmm.
19:25Yeah.
19:25Do your family, my family.
19:27Yes, you're turning one.
19:29You want me to go?
19:31Oh!
19:32You can try.
19:33She's just not having it.
19:34I got to figure out what's wrong.
19:35Come here, girl.
19:36Come here, girl.
19:38It flew by for late and to be already one years old.
19:41I mean, like everybody says, when you have a kid, they grow up so quick.
19:45Time flies.
19:46It really does.
19:47Because we'll look at pictures, and we're like, wow.
19:50Like, the baby pictures where the pacifier is bigger than her face,
19:53or she's smaller than the stroller.
19:55And now we're about to start walking, and we're trying to form words, and it's nuts.
20:00No, I'm sorry.
20:03That pump can just make you so unhappy, girl.
20:11Ooh, that looks good.
20:12Hey, can you hear that?
20:13Okay.
20:15So after a long day of work with Harvest today, everybody on the farm crew is having dinner
20:20together tonight.
20:21But I have a complaint to make.
20:23Do you have a complaint?
20:25If you ever parked the truck, did not do a very good job.
20:30So it's hard to learn, isn't it?
20:31Not hard, but challenging.
20:34Yeah.
20:35We have three daughters.
20:37Emma's our oldest daughter.
20:38She's 21.
20:39Allie's 18 and a senior in high school, and Megan is 15.
20:43And I'm really proud of our girls for knowing the agriculture and being able to run the equipment
20:48and showing their friends and boyfriends how to do it.
20:51Yeah.
20:52So Allie wouldn't let you drive?
20:55I guess not since it's my first time.
20:57Emma used to drive until Allie got to do it.
21:00No.
21:01I don't think she's let you back in, has she?
21:03No.
21:04She's taken over.
21:05I'm really proud watching Allie because I did that a few years ago.
21:09So watching her take over.
21:10And obviously, she's a little person.
21:11So she's really good at adapting to her surroundings.
21:14Like, I don't have to help her really anymore with anything.
21:17She's good to do everything on her own and all that.
21:20It makes me a proud sister moment, for sure.
21:23What did you get to do today, Alex?
21:26I just rode along with Allie as she taught me some of the features of the tracker and
21:31how to do the auger on the green card.
21:33Do you like it?
21:34Mm-hmm.
21:36I really enjoyed it.
21:38When we first heard that Allie was going to have dwarfism, it was scary.
21:42We didn't know what to expect and what to do, and we didn't know anybody.
21:46Come to find out, there was about eight babies born in the Cincinnati area the year Allie was born
21:51that also had achondroplasia. It was important for us for Allie to know other little people
21:56and have that support. But then we kept hearing about National Conference and how amazing that was.
22:01So we flew to Spokane and Adam was sitting in the lobby talking to Trent.
22:07And then Amber came in and she took Allie and took him down and introduced her to Alex and Emma.
22:13That was about the last time we saw her all week.
22:15She said that's the one week a year she feels normal.
22:17Mm-hmm. Yeah.
22:22I'm going to take over here soon.
22:23For my surgery?
22:25Yeah, for your surgery I'm going to have to take over.
22:26In a few weeks Allie will be having leg surgery to kind of help straighten her legs out.
22:30So we were coming down to Atlanta to have that done.
22:33Leg surgery for individuals with achondroplasia is simply to correct the bowing in the lower leg.
22:42Allie's family decided to do her leg surgery in Georgia because they met with the surgeon that we
22:48used and they were very impressed and I think felt very confident and comfortable with him.
22:55So Allie's grown up in a family of all average height people.
22:58Mm-hmm.
22:59And you've grown up in a family of all little people. So thinking of your house,
23:02like you guys have the accommodations. Like is it harder for you to come up here?
23:06No. I mean, I mean...
23:08We've got the stools, but we don't have things lowered.
23:10Yeah, you have the stools and that makes it just as easy. I mean, just extra step. But I mean,
23:14it's not any more challenging being here than it is at my house.
23:16Yeah.
23:18We've always tried to make accommodations, but you have to be able to function out in society also.
23:23Yeah, we have to start to learn just to adapt to the society that's not made for us.
23:26That's right.
23:26Yeah, I figured I've learned some ways to adapt and to use my surroundings.
23:33Right.
23:34You know, for your kids, you always want to try and make life better for them and easier.
23:38But also, don't make it too easy because you will have to go out into
23:42the world that's not made for her size. So she needs to learn at home how to adapt and
23:47figure things out. She's really grown to advocate for herself and tell us what she needs.
23:52I just need Allie or Jeremy to teach me how to use the auger on the green card. That's pretty much it.
23:56Oh, yeah.
23:57Okay. Everybody spills. So if you do, you've just joined a really not good club of people
24:02because it happens to everybody. Seems like about every field we have to do it.
24:06I love watching Allie and Alex get to know each other. It's just been really awesome to watch them.
24:12It's been fun. Yeah, have their relationship and see it blossom. And a lot of times farms are
24:18passed down generation and generation. You know, your kids get into it. Allie loves this so much. And
24:23Alex, gosh, that'd be our dream come true if they could keep this going.
24:28Right. Just sitting out there driving back and forth.
24:30That's all you do all day. Drive back and forth in a tractor.
24:32That's right. Or a combine.
24:34It's not that hard.
24:34Mm-hmm.
24:35Anyone can do it.
24:36Anybody can do it.
24:37I did it.
24:39Honestly, I think tonight is like, I would say like a little trial run on what our lives could be like
24:44in a few years. Like, if I do commit to the farm, like, this is what it could look like.
24:48And it's very exciting.
24:49I'm okay with that.
24:50Maybe I can major in farming and a minor in broadcasting.
24:53I can do a little bit of both.
24:54You can do that.
24:55I would like to enjoy the meeting.
24:58Very good. Very nice.
24:59Yay.
25:14There you go. Help me pick up sticks.
25:16Yes.
25:17Today, I am doing some cleanup down at the pavilion.
25:20I need to burn this pile of sticks before it gets too big.
25:26And then, I still got that whole side over there that needs to...
25:32God.
25:33It's cold, mama.
25:35Yeah. We couldn't have done this last week.
25:38Since it was cold, it's the perfect time to burn some branches and have some alone time.
25:45There we go.
25:47We're cooking with grease now.
25:50So have you talked to Emma and Alex about their talk with Ana?
25:56Not happy. Alex was not happy. They were quite stressed.
25:59Alex and Emma reached out to Ana to meet and have dinner.
26:05Since you missed Emma's graduation, I guess you've been real busy.
26:10Real busy.
26:10I am very sorry about that. There was no communication with the family. And I know I could have just...
26:17I mean, but you could have been the one to reach out to us.
26:20It's always look out. I'm the bad person. I'm the bad person.
26:25She made the decision to not attend the graduation. And all Emma and Alex were asking for is just an apology. Just say you're sorry.
26:35Oh, she never did say sorry?
26:36I mean, I think she said she's sorry, but it was, you know, followed up with, but I don't want family drama, blah, blah, blah.
26:45I apologized to Alex and Emma about missing their graduation. And I feel like they accepted it, but I wish all of them understood that, like, me pulling back from family events.
26:57Honestly, it's mom and dad. I didn't feel welcome being around them.
27:02Because we're approaching the holidays, we're in the holiday season.
27:08I mean, obviously this year, we're not even, like, our Christmas card is not going to be our whole family because of this.
27:15I have not seen anybody since that dinner with Alex and Emma.
27:18It definitely makes me sad because I want to see, like, my siblings. I want to hang out with my siblings.
27:23Um, but I don't want to come to mom and dad's house if I am not welcomed by them.
27:30You know, Ana missed, obviously, Poppy's heavenly birthday. She missed the fall fest.
27:35And next is Layton's first birthday and Thanksgiving. It's incredibly sad.
27:40I think you and I should try once more and we'll meet at a neutral ground, like a coffee shop.
27:48Not her living room.
27:49Not her living room, not our house.
27:51And, I mean, come to an agreement with Ana to see if she'll come around.
28:01I would like for her to.
28:04I think it's important for Amber and I to try once again to have a sit down conversation with Ana.
28:09As parents, we really would like to resolve this.
28:12On the basis that she's actually going to.
28:16Not just show up and sit there.
28:17And sit in the chair. She's going to participate. She's going to conversate.
28:21Everybody makes mistakes, but when you don't take ownership for yourself, what you have done,
28:30it's truly impossible to move forward.
28:33Ana needs to figure out how Ana is going to move forward with her family.
28:45Are you ready?
28:54Yeah, I'm ready.
28:56Ali and I decided to take a break from the farm, so we decided to visit a little pumpkin patch.
28:59And later tonight, I'm taking her out to dinner.
29:02Oh, look at that little mini tractor over there.
29:04Oh, yeah.
29:04Oh, I think it's for sale too.
29:06No, we don't need it at our house.
29:09Since both of us still live with our parents, it is kind of hard for us to find some alone time.
29:13So whenever we can get it, we always take it.
29:15For sure.
29:16I should have gotten a straw.
29:21I'll get you one.
29:23Hey, throw a back dish.
29:25When Alex got the straw for me, it was like, it was cute because he's a good person and he holds me out with stuff.
29:34I would say that he's a good man.
29:35And I enjoy having him.
29:38Oh, do you want to get a picture at the Browns farm side?
29:41Oh, yes.
29:43Something I love about Ali is just I love her personality.
29:46She is really caring and like always checks up on me.
29:49She's just a great person overall and she's beautiful.
29:53I like this area a lot.
29:54Yeah, I would not mind moving up here.
29:55I think you should.
29:56You seem pretty dead set on staying here, so I don't think I have much choice.
30:00I'm really excited about my future with Ali.
30:02And like my ideal plan is that once I'm through with college, I think that's when I'll start looking
30:07at moving up there with her.
30:08I feel like my family that I've talked to, like everybody's saying like Georgia has a
30:12really good broadcasting program since that's what I want to go into.
30:15Oh, yeah.
30:16But then again, they've also said broadcasting is also a thing I can do from like virtually at home.
30:19So I could be here and still farm and still do like broadcasting stuff too, like on the side.
30:24Yes.
30:25Alex loves the farm life.
30:27If you asked me now, I think both of us, we would say Alex would be the first one to
30:31really commit to relocating and moving to Ohio.
30:34And I have no problem with that.
30:35There's a wonderful family out there that has accepted Alex.
30:37I'm going to stay at my college for right now just to at least get my core classes done.
30:41But maybe once I get those finished up, I may consider transferring.
30:44Speaking of college, I need to find where I'm going.
30:47Since I'm almost finished with high school, I will go to like a local college to do ag business.
30:55Since Alex is doing online college, I might do that as well.
30:59If you're doing classes like I am, now you'll have a lot more free time.
31:01I'll find free time to come visit you.
31:04Thanks.
31:04I'll always find free time.
31:05Yeah, same for you.
31:06Yay.
31:07Do you want to go look around now?
31:09Yes.
31:10Just watch your step though getting out.
31:17Here's my eyes, I've got these feel good vibes.
31:20Come on, let's make it, make it all.
31:25We've got time, get back and chill outside.
31:28Come on, let's go.
31:29Hey, guys.
31:30Hey, guys.
31:31How are you?
31:32Doing well.
31:32How are you?
31:34So we were just gifted some land from my parents.
31:36They gave us a lot in the same neighborhood that they live in.
31:40And so now we are going to meet with a builder to give us estimates on, you know,
31:46the home that we would like to have to build on this lot.
31:49So tell me what you're all thinking about doing.
31:50Um, so there has been land that has been purchased, uh, coincidentally in our parents' neighborhood.
31:56Uh-huh.
31:57And it is a one acre lot and there's a pond, but from the looks of the land it slopes down.
32:04And we had a potential blueprint, but we're not really sure if this blueprint will suit the land.
32:09And we're really just trying to figure out if barnuminiums are obviously the biggest trend right now.
32:17A barnuminium, you really can think of it like a giant shed.
32:20And it's something that Bryce and I have looked into because it is a little bit more affordable.
32:25And you can kind of customize it to any way that you want within a reasonable price.
32:29We do have some in-house plans that we build all the time that are very popular.
32:35But, um, for your situation, I mean, you're going to probably want something a little more
32:39customized than those.
32:41A little bit, a little bit with my, uh, intricate family.
32:45So I definitely want a walk-in shower simply because it is more accessible for me.
32:50Really, there's no other LP accommodations that I would want in my home right now.
32:54Just because since we do have an average science daughter, I cannot raise her in a home,
32:59where everything is my height.
33:01If I was building a house from scratch, I mean, there would be some things that were tailored to me,
33:07but nothing more than kitchen stools and, like, maybe some lowered light fixtures.
33:13Lower the kitchen cabinets, stuff like that, just make it a little bit more accessible.
33:17Having maybe an elevator in a house would be cool instead of stairs.
33:22Well, the elevator would get stuck.
33:23That would make it more fun.
33:25Okay, well, we don't think of that, but still.
33:27It'd be just like the fridge messing up.
33:29You'd just call the maintenance guy.
33:30Yeah.
33:31On a typical barn dominium plan, most of them are on a slab foundation.
33:35Okay.
33:36Uh, of course, that we'd have to see that we may be able to do some grading on your lot
33:41to get it to where we can accommodate a slab, uh, a lot with a slope like that.
33:45It's typically going to be either a basement or a crawl space, depending on how steep the slope is.
33:51There have been multiple lots that we have looked at with my dad,
33:55with the land being not super flat.
33:57We are aware that grading and tree removals can be quite pricey.
34:01For a typical, I'm going to say, four-bedroom, two-bathroom house,
34:06so probably about 2,200 square feet, how long does that typically take for you guys to build?
34:11Um, six to nine months.
34:13Six to nine months.
34:13It's important to me to have mine and her own space with Layton.
34:20With the timeframe of the builder giving us six to nine months to build the house,
34:25um, me and her are a little pressured to get that done before her second birthday.
34:31So, the shorter we have to wait, the better, because I would way much rather it be
34:36us three on our own and just enjoying it.
34:40And then, um, the only other thing that we might run into that would be a concern is if we were doing a
34:48basement foundation, of course, we have to dig into the ground. There may be some rock or something that
34:53could be a challenge to dig through.
34:55With the added expenses of needing to grade and remove trees and add a basement foundation, we've
35:02realized that this is definitely going to, um, require more money and more time to be able to build this home.
35:09I'm just nervous about whenever we go to the land, if like we're not able to build in the spot that we
35:15want to build or, uh, we're just going to have to rethink a whole different blueprint.
35:20So, this meeting with the builder definitely may change our view on the land, whether we want it or
35:28not. There could be a chance where it could be more closer to Layton's third birthday instead,
35:34and we don't want that. So, should we continue with, you know, keeping the land and building,
35:39or should we go back to looking and just simply buying a house off the market?
35:43We definitely need to think about it.
35:46Thank you so much. It's nice officially meeting you again.
35:48Good to meet you.
35:50You ready to get some Cincinnati chili?
36:02Yeah, I'm hungry.
36:03Me too.
36:06So, tonight is my last night in Ohio, and I figured I would treat
36:10Allie out to a dinner with some Cincinnati chili.
36:13I'm not sure what I want.
36:14There's a lot of options.
36:15A good way to describe Cincinnati chili is like a more runny, that sounds gross,
36:23but kind of like a less, a less thick chili with like cinnamon in it. It's usually served like on a big
36:28plate of noodles or like hot dogs or fries. So, it's kind of versatile on anything really.
36:32Can I have chili cheese fries, please?
36:36And I'll do two cheese ponies.
36:40I stutter too, so you're good.
36:42I stutter all the freaking time.
36:45So, Allie and I both have a stutter when we get nervous. That is something we have in common.
36:51We both like to be very organized, and we both like to know what's coming up ahead. So,
36:56yeah, we're both pretty similar in those fields.
36:59And she's even about to have the same leg surgery that I had applied a few years ago now.
37:03So, are you nervous for your leg surgery any?
37:06I'm nervous to put under.
37:08From like all the surgeries I've had, going under is like the easiest part.
37:12Just bring it in a few breaths and you're out.
37:13Yeah, I'm just telling myself that it's a deep sleep.
37:17It is. It really is.
37:20So, I'm having surgery in two weeks, which will make my legs straight and so I can walk
37:26proper and I don't have, and I don't walk on my ankles anymore, which I am really excited for.
37:32I've been looking forward to this day for a long time, and I can't wait.
37:37Here's me before my surgery. Like, you can see like how bad my legs were bowed.
37:44You can tell how bowed they were.
37:46My legs are like that. That's awful. I don't like it.
37:50Alex had his surgery very young because his bowing was so extreme,
37:54he could not pull his pants up and down by himself. Elizabeth had the surgery post-puberty,
38:00when she was 13, because during puberty the growth rate is higher and therefore the dwarf
38:07bones stayed dwarf and then the non-dwarf bones, you know, continued to grow. And we ended up with
38:13bowing that also was creating back problems and things like that.
38:17Dad wanted me to mention this to you. You're probably gonna have to get like a piece of wood,
38:21as you can tell, like with Liz underneath her legs, just so they can stay upright.
38:24So we don't like fall down like this, so we all stay straight.
38:27I will tell my dad that.
38:29And Liz actually had to get her hair washed outside because she couldn't like go in the shower with
38:33the pub.
38:33That is one thing that I'm going to figure out.
38:37Since Alex has already had surgery, I'm not too worried about it. Like, I already know what to expect.
38:44He's told me, and I know that it's going to be okay.
38:47Mom, Dad, and I will be there at the hospital on your surgery day.
38:50So we'll be there when you wake up.
38:55I'm just excited for the whole thing.
38:58So in a way, the surgery is kind of a plus for me too, because I'll get to see Ali more often
39:02and she'll be a lot closer.
39:03Yeah, like an hour away instead of eight hours away.
39:06Yeah, an hour away instead of eight hours. Yeah, exactly.
39:08It's nice.
39:09Thanks for having me up here these past few days. I've really enjoyed it.
39:12When are we going to see each other again, besides my surgery?
39:16My best bet is like, like New Year's trip I always make,
39:19or I've made the past two years.
39:20Mm-hmm.
39:21So not too much longer, actually.
39:23No, like a month.
39:25Just a month, two months. Yeah, not bad.
39:27Yeah.
39:27And since we're seeing each other halfway through it, it'll make it go by faster.
39:31Yeah.
39:32It's kind of nice that we're at the point of a relationship where we have like traditions now.
39:35Like, I always make that trip at the end of the year.
39:38It's been the last part of the holidays with Ali and her family and like spending years with them.
39:42So yeah, I'm going to miss you on my flight home tomorrow.
39:45Yeah, it's going to be sad.
39:47It is hard waiting to be really close with Ali because I love being up there whenever I get the chance.
39:52I've met the woman I'm going to marry and I just can't wait to count down the days and
39:57we'll eventually be together for the rest of our lives.
40:03Thank you, you too.
40:04Thank you, you too.
40:05Next time on Seven Little Johnstons.
40:10Are you the birthday girl?
40:11Today is officially Leighton's first birthday.
40:14I don't know why there's only one person she absolutely despises and it's Heidi.
40:19The goal for the first birthday party for me today was just not to make her cry.
40:22Oh, dude.
40:23I think it's a pretty game.
40:24Yeah.
40:25Okay, okay, okay.
40:27Heidi.
40:28That was Ashley.
40:32Good.
40:33Getting to the point where there's a, you know, ring talking.
40:36I have not thought of how I was going to propose, obviously with a ring.
40:41I could be with her right now, but mine's strictly finance.
40:44I think it's going to be kind of like the tornado.
40:46Tornado's here, everybody take cover.
40:48That's how we're going to find out through Jonah.
40:49I'm starving.
40:54My two good girlfriends, who are now aunts to Leighton,
40:57we decided to get together and just talk and catch up.
41:00You are now engaged.
41:01You really get a good look at it.
41:03I've expressed to Bryce, whenever he feels ready to propose, it should be when he's ready.
