01:49This track opened its doors in 1968 and has been run by the same family the entire time.
01:55This track is in the northwest and it sits at an elevation of almost 2,700 feet above sea level.
02:01The air quality at this altitude will make it harder for a lot of these cars to make power they're used to.
02:07Today, we're running the great eight.
02:09It's the sixth of 14 events spread across the entire country.
02:13And things are heating up.
02:15Here's how it works.
02:16If you win the great eight, you get 10 points.
02:17Plus, you also get $10,000.
02:20If you runner up, you get seven.
02:22And if you make it to the semifinals, you will get three.
02:25Those points go towards an individual championship that will be worth $100,000 at the end of the season.
02:31Tonight, everyone will be eager to knock Kai out in round one to prevent him from opening up his lead.

05:47It seems like I run him or Nate Sailor every week, and they both have my number, and that's
05:52why we did the upgrades, so that we can try to be more competitive.
05:56We've been right there, just like a few inches behind and did the upgrades, but looking at
06:01this, we made some right calls.
06:02It looks good until it didn't, so we just got to get in there and dig in and make sure
06:07to make it run good.
06:08It's not in me just to be okay losing, and we were losing by inches every week, and we
06:14decided to do an upgrade.
06:16When you do upgrades, typically, every time I've done one, there's always a minor setback.
06:22But I think, you know, if we play our cards right and we hit the tune-up right, we got
06:27a shot at it.
06:28But we got to make a good pass out running, and that's going to be tough in this air.
06:32So not only did we do an upgrade that changes the fuel drastically, we're in air that changes
06:37the fuel drastically.
06:38So we got our work cut out for us, for us tune-up-wise.
06:42From where this thing come from last night, y'all wouldn't even be, you couldn't imagine
06:46even running today.
06:47I mean, it was literally a bare block in the car, 5 a.m. this morning.

07:25We've changed the tires, see if that can pick us up.
07:28Hopefully that gives us that little bit of an edge there.

07:33trying more rear gear.

11:07All year and none of us look forward to coming away out here and some beautiful scenery some nice racetracks
11:11But our engines hate this air just the prettiest country you'll see but the air sucks over here at the elevations high
11:19Where I live at sea level which meaning zero or they lives like 5600 feet, so way higher than we're used to be in
11:26Oh, Jane Lane's gonna have some trouble breathing
11:28But I think she's still got enough to get past these boys
11:30How many more gallons of fuel will we use if we make a full pass? Oh, you'll be fine. Okay
11:35This is our first time out west with a blower. You know, we always came out here with a nitrous car
11:39I had that figured out pretty good
11:40I mean, I could almost go just as fast out here as I could on the East Coast
11:44On a nitrous car you can make your own atmosphere inside the motor on the blower car
11:47All you can do is suck in whatever air you got
11:50So it's gonna be a little learning curve luckily. I got Jeff and Adam here
11:53So I'm not gonna have to learn much except for they can go to transbrake asking questions while they're making my car fast
11:59We're taking this training cool world
12:03We are in Boise Idaho. This is as close to home track as I can get we're about nine hours from here
12:08We're feeling good the elevation here is really similar to at home
12:12We've been used to racing on the East Coast where you're below sea level
12:15So this is gonna be a lot to get through for a lot of guys. I feel we got an advantage because we're from up here
12:20We got a good race car. The track's a little sketchy
12:24But other than that, we'll get through that

18:17A boost line broke um so that automatically creates a vacuum leak which creates the idle to uh
18:24Go up and idle super high and then when you let go of the button it just literally has no boosts
18:29And if you know how a pro charger works you have to have boosts in order to make power and we had no boosts so we had no power
18:36We'll get it fixed here pick up our pouty faces go make a test pass and try to prepare for tomorrow

19:23And then you put a gear on it and a gear here that runs your blower speed
19:28The air here is pretty bad we're down quite a bit of quite a bit of boost so we're gonna put more gear to it to spin it harder to create more boost
19:35And in turn while we were changing out the gear ratio and that you always inspect your bearings and stuff just because of wear and tear
19:44I found out that one's got two cracks in it right here and right here once it goes it goes and it's catastrophic failure from there
19:51So we caught it
19:55Was debating whether to run it and they come over check us out see what we were up to
20:00Lo and behold he has a f3 which a lot of people don't run everybody runs f4s usually
20:04He had a plate for one so all it contains is the bearings here plate that bolts up to the block
20:10And then uh, you know all the magic happens and spins it and makes boost so
20:15I'm gonna clean his up you can tell here
20:18He's had one come apart and been damaged before but i'm not gonna worry about that
20:21We're just gonna clean it the best we can
20:24Butt everything up and roll with it and go into some you know go in the first round with some more borrowed parts here

21:28In altitude, you might be having a big motor in it
21:32With no testing? Oh yeah, we're testing grade eight
21:36So we use grade eight to test swing for it. I think that's a good idea when I first got into grade eight
21:43And I won my first ever grade eight. I was still thinking I wanted to win the invitational more
21:50Fast forward a race and didn't get into the grade eight
21:53I kind of broke my heart and I say this I want to be in grade eight more than I thought to be back in grade eight
21:58It's awesome because I can build my points. I think I'm around third now in points
22:02So maybe I can creep back up closer to kai in the top
22:05And you know kai talking trash on the internet about us
22:08Is he so basically coming from the last race to here the air is gonna be different with different altitude
22:13So the uh the car's gonna have a little less power
22:15So we're gonna have to add a little more time and maybe spend a blower a little more
22:19The shifts a little higher the rpms in the engine to make a big difference and all that
22:23So uh, we'll have to make up a I'd say two three hundred horsepower
22:26All right final pair of this grade eight first round over in the right lane
22:39That's going to be ax man going up against the damon merchant in the left

25:53So i said well shoot we're going to turn it up and swing it make it a little faster and uh
25:57hopefully take kai out
25:59The weather's great humidity's perfect you know got a little tailwind behind us

31:48the winner of this race here will face off against kai kelly in the great eight finals

35:05so he done his job hopefully i can redeem myself down there

37:43me and giuseppe's been pretty much running side by side the whole year i've had him about maybe a
37:46quarter fender or half a car sometime but uh he's fighting the same thing he's got a pro charge
37:52hemmy i got a screw blown hemmy they're both starving for air so there's no advantages in
37:56this race it's just going to be made the best man win winner of this race right here will be ten

38:16and kai kelly takes the win kai kelly is your great eight winner wow what a drag race
38:41giuseppe was fast all day ron told me in the staging lanes that he didn't think i had enough
38:44to beat giuseppe so being able to beat him today that was badass hey man we had a little old tune

39:42race the finish line with the shoots out i've done this so i think what's happened is we're pretty
39:46close so the shoots are both out and it sucks us in yeah because i'm like what happened at least
39:50you're on that time remember right at the finish line they hit every time yeah we're tired ass man
39:55good job that was a good race though it was so tonight i showed up racing for 10 grand i'm walking
40:01away with 15. steven brittle donated us five thousand dollars then we took the ten thousand dollar win home so
40:0715 000 in one night with old buitt hey that ain't a bad night no giuseppe's mad at me again man
40:17and there you have it for the second time this season kai kelly wins the grading he's taken home
40:23ten thousand dollars and ten points towards that individual championship kai is now 17
40:29points ahead of giuseppe who's in second place with 20 points
40:32next time this is the horsepower killer track
40:41so the higher you go up in air the less oxygen there is in the air so the less power it makes
40:49the top eight race in colorado's challenging high altitude blew that baby apart
40:55oh we gotta make a problem i want to find out how fast this nitrous car no whatever stop everybody's
41:04talking about how fast lizzie is nobody's got a chance out here against nitrous cars
