00:00I'm Jeff Gibson, the director of Cycles.
00:18This film was inspired by my relationship with my grandmother,
00:21and in particular, the hard conversation my family had with her
00:24when moving her into assisted living.
00:30I remember the last time I looked over her house
00:35before we put it up for sale,
00:37kind of knowing that this house held the story of my family.
00:41Sorry, guys.
00:49When the audience puts on the VR goggles,
00:51I wanted that same experience.
00:53They get into this space, they get a sense of it,
00:55and then the story unravels around them.
01:00So this is actually a photo of my grandparents,
01:05and this is kind of one of those ideal picturesque moments
01:07where they're kissing on a hillside.
01:09What's funny is this is actually a photo that she wrote on,
01:12and under here it says, Hubba Hubba.
01:19This is actually a pose in the film.
01:21The two characters, they embrace each other and give each other a kiss just like this.
01:33My mom both wrote and performed the score for this film,
01:37which is inspired by her mom and dad.
01:39And so it was an amazing experience working with her.
01:41And I remember putting on the headset, hearing my mom's music,
01:46and being in the same room with the characters,
01:49and seeing them come by me.
01:51And just being in tears in the headset,
01:53just hearing this thing and just, you know,
01:55it's just a surreal experience of,
01:57here's my grandma and my grandpa right here,
01:59and my mom's music playing.
02:00It's just, it was crazy, so.
02:03I don't know.
02:32Mom.
02:33I think it's time to leave,
02:34and move into assisted living.
02:36This is only temporary.
02:38When I'm ready,
02:39I will come back to my home.
02:44The doctor.
02:46I'm fine.
02:47I'm fine.
