00:00Easy potato bake with cream. This potato bake is comfort food at its best. Creamy,
00:06cheesy and the kind of dish that has everyone reaching for seconds. It's
00:10surprisingly impressive for something made with only a handful of simple
00:14ingredients delivering a golden crispy top and a creamy interior that easily
00:18outshines plain mashed potatoes. For potato base use one kilogram of russet
00:24or any white starchy potatoes, one and one-half cups heavy or thickened cream,
00:28three cloves of garlic or one and one half teaspoons garlic powder, salt and
00:32pepper to taste. For cheesy topping use two cups of shredded cheddar or tasty
00:38cheese. For garnishing use two tablespoons of fresh chopped parsley. Preheat your
00:43oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit fan forced and set aside a 9 by 13 inch
00:48rectangular baking dish. Using a sharp knife or a mandolin slicer thinly slice the
00:53potatoes to about one-eighth inch thick. There is no need to peel them since the
00:58skin adds great texture and saves prep time. If you are using a mandolin be
01:03sure to use the hand guard and take care of your fingers. Place all the sliced
01:07potatoes in a large mixing bowl and pour in the heavy cream. Add one cup of the
01:11shredded cheese, the minced garlic, one teaspoon of salt and one half teaspoon of
01:16black pepper. Mix everything gently until the potatoes are evenly coated. Transfer the
01:21creamy mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out and pressing lightly so
01:26there are no air pockets. The cream should just reach the top layer of the
01:31potatoes. Bake the dish uncovered for about 50 minutes or until the potatoes are
01:36fork tender and the cream bubbles softly at the edges. At this stage the top may
01:41still be pale, which is perfectly fine. Remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle
01:45the remaining one cup of shredded cheese evenly across the surface. Place the dish back
01:50into the oven and bake for another 10 minutes or until the cheese is beautifully melted and
01:55golden brown. Once done, take the dish out of the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes.
02:01This brief resting time helps the creamy sauce thicken slightly, making it easier to slice
02:05and serve. Finish with a generous sprinkle of freshly chopped parsley for color and freshness.
02:11Leave hot and enjoy every indulgent bubbling bite.
