00:00A Texas Republican congressman is calling for a freeze on all immigration into the United
00:05States until the country overhauls how we handle both legal and illegal immigration.
00:10What I would point out here is that we're dealing with a cultural problem about who
00:15we are as Americans.
00:18Congressman Chip Roy says the PAWS Act is necessary because of what he calls a mass
00:23foreign-born population and a decline in quality of life and opportunities for Americans.
00:29The people we're importing are often the ones that are churning babies.
00:34Our core Americans who inherited this country aren't having babies, and now we have a demographics
00:41problem and we have a cultural problem.
00:44This is a non-exhaustive list, but Roy said he wants to either end or revamp H-1B visas,
00:50which allow companies to hire foreigners with specialized skills to fill technical jobs,
00:55birthright citizenship, chain migration, which allows citizens and lawful permanent residents
01:00to sponsor family members to come to the United States, and Plyler v. Doe, the Supreme Court
01:05ruling that requires states to allow the children of illegal immigrants to attend public schools.
01:10So why does Roy want to do this?
01:12Well, to put it in his words, he says he's noticed an advancement of Islamism and Sharia
01:17law in his home state of Texas.
01:19We're dealing with a massive problem of the advancement of Sharia law. We're dealing with
01:24a mass community that is growing up that have no desire to assimilate and come here to become
01:31American and embrace Western civilization, embrace our constitution, embrace our values.
01:36Roy's bill will not become law because it won't get 60 votes in the Senate, but it does represent
01:41a larger trend throughout the conservative movement. Republican lawmakers have introduced bills to end H-1B
01:47and change birthright citizenship so that it only applies to the children of U.S. citizens and
