00:06crackdown. She thinks some of it has gone too far. And she's putting that message directly
00:13into a campaign ad less than seven weeks before the midterms. This is Congresswoman Maria Elvira
00:19Salazar, a Trump-endorsed Republican, running for re-election in a Miami-area district where
00:25nearly three-quarters of the population is Hispanic. And in her new ad, she directly calls out
00:31the president.
00:32Mr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far. In July, 50% of
00:38the 50,000 people that were detained had no criminal record. Be careful what your advisors
00:42are telling you about immigration policies. The same Hispanics who helped you get to the
00:46White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.
00:50Salazar has broken with Trump on immigration before. She pushed for a legal work status
00:54for some undocumented immigrants who have been here for years, pay taxes, and don't have
00:59a criminal record. Her Democratic opponent, Elliott Rodriguez, a former Miami news anchor,
01:05has also made Trump's immigration policies part of his campaign. He released this ad back
01:10in January.
01:11Yes, secure borders matter, but so does due process and our Constitution. When our leaders
01:18stay silent as these rights are trampled on, that silence is not leadership.
01:24Trump endorsed Salazar earlier this year. The White House has not yet responded to her
01:29a new ad.
