09:16Whenever I get a chance to jump in on an early gameplay test, what really stands out is Steel Frontiers' distinct tone and atmosphere.
09:25It has a unique identity of its own and that's been brought to life by NCSoft's developers.
09:31But it fits perfectly with the Horizon universe and that balance between the essence of Horizon and something fresh that really excites me about this project.
09:41Horizon Steel Frontiers is an upcoming massive multiplayer online role-playing game developed by NCSoft in collaboration with Guerrilla Games under licence from Sony Interactive Entertainment and set in the world of the Horizon franchise.
09:57It is described as a cross-platform free-to-play experience available on PC via NCSoft's Purple platform and mobile devices iOS and Android.
10:07Players take on the role of custom-created machine hunters exploring a new region known as the Deadlands, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico, where large-scale cooperative and competitive events allow thousands of players to hunt colossal machines together or contend with rival tribes for resources.
10:25The gameplay builds on Horizon's hunting and traversal mechanics, using pull casters to scale machines, setting traps, scavenging parts, and adds MMORPG systems such as deep character customisation, including tribe selection among Nora, Tanakhth, Utaru, Osaram, persistent social structures, emergent events, and an open world that blends PvE and PvP dynamics.
10:47Visuals maintain the lush, post-apocalyptic aesthetic of the Horizon series, with machine beasts, sweeping vistas, and tribal settlements, while the combat system emphasises cinematic scale, environmental interaction, mount traversal, and real-time asynchronous player engagements.
11:04With no single-player narrative following the franchise's previous protagonist, this title shifts focus toward a shared multiplayer frontier and player-driven stories, aiming to expand the Horizon universe into live-service territory with ongoing content updates, seasonal events, and cross-region play.
