00:00Smallville star Alison Mack is finally opening up about the NXIVM cult, and which co-star introduced her.
00:06Smallville star Alison Mack is opening up about her time in the NXIVM cult for the first time.
00:12The new CBC podcast Alison After NXIVM, which premiered on November 10th,
00:17chronicles the actress's experience with the cult and its leader, Keith Reynier, across seven episodes.
00:23The podcast dives into Alison's role as Reynier's right-hand woman, as Variety reports,
00:28and her impact on the other members of the group.
00:31Within the NXIVM women's group DOS, Reynier enforced what they ate, minimally, and when, as well as every action they took.
00:40Alison Mack served nearly two years in prison starting in 2021, while NXIVM leader Keith Reynier is serving 120 years.
00:48She says she first attended a NXIVM meeting in 2006 through Smallville co-star Kristen Krook.
00:53We both were at the point where we were 25. We were in New York City together.
00:58It was our break, the actress says on the podcast.
01:01And we had rented an apartment in the same building in the West Village.
01:05And we both were like, why do we both feel so unsatisfied?
01:09When Krook discovered NXIVM, she explained it to Mack as,
01:12The science of joy. It's the most amazing thing, Mack remembers.
01:16She was just like super excited about it.
01:19Mack also says the intro courses were learning about what's the purpose of mankind,
01:23and we were learning about how does that relate to gender differences and relationships.
01:28Kristen Krook has opened up about her involvement with the group in the past, writing on social media.
01:33When I was about 23, I took an executive success program slash NXIVM intensive,
01:39what I understood to be a self-help personal growth course,
01:42that helped me handle my previous shyness, which is why I continued with the program.
01:46I left about five years ago and had minimal contact with those who were still involved.
01:51The statement continues.
01:53The accusations that I was in the inner circle, or recruited women, are blatantly false.
01:59During my time, I never experienced any illegal or nefarious activity.
02:03I am horrified and disgusted by what has come out about DOS.
02:06Thank you, sir.
