00:03Discord may be gearing up for an IPO, but instead of ringing a bell, it's ringing up sales, literally.

00:09The company announced a new suite of commerce features on Tuesday

00:12that turns the chat app into something closer to a gamer-themed mall.

00:17Users can now buy digital game items without ever leaving Discord,

00:20which is great news for players and even better news for anyone who's ever impulsively purchased a skin at 2 a.m.

00:27The new features include a built-in shop for digital items,

00:31wish lists for the things you'd like but haven't convinced yourself to buy,

00:34and the ability to send in-game gifts directly through DMs.

00:38With a potential IPO looming, Discord knows Wall Street will be peering over its shoulder

00:43for signs of a solid monetization plan.

00:46These new tools give developers a fresh revenue stream,

00:49and Discord a tidy cut by letting them sell directly in the place where players are already hanging out.

00:54Developers no longer have to coax users out to external stores.

00:58Instead, the store comes to them, hoodie and all.

01:01The first game to test drive the new system is Marvel Rivals,

01:04a blockbuster title that exploded out of the gate last year

01:07with 10 million players in just three days

01:10and over $100 million in revenue in its first month.

01:14It also boasts a thriving 4 million-strong Discord community,

01:18basically the perfect pilot customer.

01:20The game now has its own snazzy shop page in its official server,

01:24where players can browse bundles, costumes, emotes, and other virtual goodies.

01:29Wish lists make holiday gifting almost too convenient.

01:31Friends can peek at what you want and buy it for you,

01:34even if they've never touched Marvel Rivals.

01:37Shops currently accept U.S. dollars and work only on desktop

01:40for users in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Oceania,

01:44but Discord says more regions may join soon.
