00:00or to buy a device or to buy a computer or a tablet or simply to get some feedback or some
00:10assistance on what we plan to buy, you know, because sometimes we don't have all of the
00:17information available in terms of technology, so sometimes it's necessary to ask for further
00:24details in terms of technology and all of the necessary aspects that we need before we actually
00:34buy something. So, let's see, we have right here, it says, let's check it out, so there we go.
00:45A smartphone has a touchscreen, keyboard and better technology than a regular phone making
00:54it a better option, plus it has a more modern look. Tablets are more convenient for children
01:01to use. They can easily connect to the internet and have a touch system and lots of technology.
01:10USB flash drives can be very useful and practical, however, their capacity is limited. Laptops
01:18can be much more useful and practical than desktop computers because they can be taken anywhere
01:24and their technology is usually newer. So, in this case we have a smartphone. So, yesterday
01:31we were describing a comparison between a smartphone and a cell phone, so right now I would like
01:37to, that you can tell me what are the main advantages that a smartphone has over a tablet, for example,
01:44tell me.

02:28and what else and you know unsuitable another adjective to describe devices or appliances
02:37but practice it's it's a verb or it's a noun for example you can say i have
02:44a practice a soccer practice or a basketball practice
02:48this afternoon but practice cannot be cannot be an adjective so what else
02:58both have has is a third person
03:15we can use we can use a laptop for working
03:20for working because remember that what is the main difference between job and work do you know
03:31well work is a verb to work i work at a factory i work at a restaurant i work at a school
03:39my parents work at an office my sister works at a hospital my teacher works at an english academy
03:48but what about job job is a place job is the noun so i've got a job i have a new job i'm looking for
03:56a job we don't say i'm looking for a work that's not correct because the work is a verb the job is
04:03a noun so you can you can use the word work as a noun but only when you're referring to an activity
04:13and a task an assignment that you have been assigned by your superior or by your supervisor for example
04:20i have so much work to do this weekend so i may not be able to go out so work it refers to the amount
04:30of activities that you have related to your job but the job is the place the job is your position
04:36so the job is the noun work is the verb work can also be used as a noun in certain contexts as we
04:44have described previously in terms of activities you know in terms of uh assignments that you have to
04:51complete prior to your job or prior to complete an objective you know so that's the main difference
04:59between work and job so we say i want a new job i would like to get a new job i would like to get a
05:07job in germany i would like to get a job in the united states i would like to check to get a job abroad
05:14but to work it's an act is the action is the verb so i may want to say i would like to work for you i
05:21would like to work in that company i would like to work abroad i would like to work abroad in a new job
05:32but in order to get a new job i need to work better and i need to work harder you see so the difference
05:39is work is the action job is the noun do you understand the difference
05:45that's the point so give me an example give me an example using oh i rotated the the view
05:57let's create an example using uh work the word work and the word uh job the word job
06:07uh try to make a statement using both uh both words what would you say
06:30okay where we make different products uh
06:33uh for for different countries you know but around the world it's it's a proposition it's
06:40you can use around the world in that context for different countries for example or you can say
06:46we make products uh worldwide you know so that's worldwide yeah but you need to to use uh both words
06:56in the same example you need to use those words the verb and the noun in the same example what would you
07:02say
07:12what else
07:14try to be
07:27try to be concise in your ideas whenever you think of an idea in english you have to be concise you
07:38have to be logical you have to concentrate on what you want to express try to focus on a simple context
07:44context on a simple concept that you want to develop for example my sister got a new job last week
07:51now she works from nine to seven simple as that uh my parents my parents helped me to look for a new job
08:02because we moved last week to new jersey now i have a new job where i work from monday to saturday
08:13you see so try to concentrate try to develop an idea concisely logically and consequently in order to express
08:21what you want to express what you want to express because if you are not able to develop or to
08:28elaborate an idea concisely it's going to be really difficult to speak and that's a problem while
08:34speaking that's a very basic problem that most students have which is uh not getting to the point or not
08:43finding a logical conclusion because sometimes we try to get some many sophisticated words to decorate
08:51or i or our idea and that's not always necessary just try to focus on a logical idea not too simple
08:59not too complex but logical and uh and detailed enough in order to express what you want to express
09:07for example let's say uh the president of my country has a very important job which is to develop
09:17new job sources for his citizens he works daily in order to improve working conditions remember that the
09:26word working working can also be used as a verb or as an adjective so for that in that case we
09:36also had for example i'm working i'm working i'm working on a new project or for example in the
09:47previous statement that we mentioned our president our president is trying to improve the working conditions
09:58of the employees
10:04so working can be used as a verb and as an adjective so we so and even as a subject but we will see that
10:13in another time so try to focus on creating a logical statement using both words for example
10:22a veterinarian works in order to to help to help animals his job carries
10:42an important his job carries an important responsibility
10:52using very simple idea concise logical go for it give me an example using work and job
11:12it give me a lot of information
11:29you you cannot make those interruptions david you know i mean that's not natural while speaking you have
11:37to practice that you need to practice writing ideas more often you need to have a diary where you can
11:45make and where you can write ideas daily when you can write every day because that's necessary
11:51not only for speaking but also for writing if you ever get a job for example in a restaurant or at an
11:57office or in a call center you need to answer consequently and efficiently because your customer is waiting for
12:05you to give you to give you that communication level to give you that to give him or give her that service
12:13otherwise you know that these days the problem is that most of people are very impatient you know
12:19that's the main that's the main problem that we have these days so you got to be prepared for that
12:24in order to provide good communication you need to practice and the way to practice is
12:31to read and write as much as you can write your ideas every day write your thoughts write a review of a
12:40movie write a review of a song that you listened write a review of an experience that you lived and for
12:48that you need a diary you know a diary an agenda where you can actually track your improvements your
12:55advancements in order to start achieving more fluency and more confidence while you speak as you do in
13:03spanish you know whenever you have a conversation in spanish your communication is simultaneous you
13:09know your communication is simultaneous because you mastered the language because you feel confident
13:16with your with your language with your spanish and most importantly with your vocabulary and with your
13:23grammar you know so it's the same with english the thing is that as it is a new language for you
13:29you need to practice it that's good that is going to be important in the uh in the cambridge interview
13:37let me show you a video right here where we will see uh some people trying to have a conversation and trying
13:45to to elaborate so for example here we have cambridge speaking test let me show you right here so that
13:58we can uh take this as uh as a basis in order to to see how uh how you should keep
14:09the the intonation and how you should keep the uh the pace of a conversation in order to provide
14:17the necessary information whenever you are asked with a new question and in the case that you have
14:24to interact with another student which is very common in cambridge interviews usually when you take
14:30a table or a cambridge speaking test you can only have a partner a classmate next to you so that you
14:39can interact with this person so in order to interact with him or with her that uh it's important to say
14:47that that classmate is going to be assigned randomly you know in order to interact properly with him or with
14:53her you will need to practice your speaking skills you know your speaking skills and in order the shorter
15:01and the best way to improve your speaking skills is through writing so you have to write you have to
15:09write and to listen and to elaborate english you know listen listening it's useful to acquire vocabulary
15:18and to improve your pronunciation and your intonation and writing it's useful to practice
15:25in a controlled area which is your notebook and your your your paper sheets how you develop ideas
15:34how you elaborate how you construct your ideas how you reproduce your concepts that you have in your
15:41mind and in the paper sheet you can correct because you can erase the idea you can reformulate the
15:48idea so it's a lot easier once that you get accustomed to doing so your speaking is going to improve
15:55so that requires practice that requires time that requires commitment to do so so we're gonna have
16:03we're gonna watch some video here in order to see how this is let me show you
16:18so
16:23so
16:25so
16:27so
16:29so
16:31so
16:33so
16:35so
16:37so
16:39so
17:01so
17:03so
17:05so
17:24and Ignacio where are you from i'm also from here Madrid Spain
17:29what do you enjoy most about studying english
17:32the fact that i can talk english to people on social networks and in real life people that live
17:37in other parts of the world
17:40Ignacio how important is it to you to spend time with your family
17:45it is quite important as for example for my dad he doesn't spend a lot of time with us in Spain
17:51as he kind of lives in Geneva working so we really like and enjoy when he is here with us and
17:58we enjoy our time with him thank you luna if you could travel to one country in the world where
18:05would you go
18:09i would go to Maui which is a hawaiian island and it's known for its stunning and relaxing beaches and
18:15for the surf which i love
18:17i think having a few friends that you really know are your friends and are and are not going
18:31to let you down it's really important but having a white list of contacts which you can contact and
18:37talk with talk to if you want something or another thing that's also kind of really important
18:54so as you can see here on this video their communication patterns show that they have
19:05a fluent interaction you know they have an interaction and the conversation sounds natural you know you can
19:12see that they have a very natural conversation right there because this interviewer is providing some
19:20questions that they have to analyze they have to discuss and they have therefore
19:28they have therefore elaborated in the best way as possible
19:34so this is necessary in a conversation you know we know that sometimes
19:40that sometimes we hesitate a little bit because we spent more time trying to look for the indicated or
19:47the most sophisticated words that we need but uh in the main stages in the beginner stages we have to
19:55focus on elaborate elaboration and uh efficiency you know so that's that's really important so as you
20:06can see here on this video uh this interviewer asked the girl the question is there a country that you would
20:14like to visit sometime and she mentioned a country in uh in the oceania continent or something like that or in
20:22southeast asia that she said i would like to travel to maui you know and uh and she mentioned the
20:28characteristics that this country has and uh why she would like to visit that country and what what's her
20:35aspiration and her goals so you have to be able to elaborate uh that type of conversations because
20:43in the cambridge interview you never know what questions are going to be presented so you have to study
20:50different topics you you need to practice um conversations with different topics the common
20:57topics that we that we have these days to discuss you know the the popular topics that everybody talks
21:03about for example climate change the diet the food economy technology all of those are family habits
21:13sports all of those topics usually come out in a in a conversation you know and you need to be
21:21prepared practicing those those subjects in order to discuss about them and to avoid feeling uncomfortable
21:29whenever you have a conversation or feeling unsure on what to say right what else did you see on this
21:36conversation david
21:42the fluent of of the speakers they they speak fluently fluency and with fluency and confident
21:52and they are confident that's true you know that's that's the point so uh a good way to practice this is for
22:00example that you take a picture or yeah that you take a book which is why which is the main reason for
22:06which we practice with these um we practice with these uh lessons that we have in our book because here in
22:15our book we can see different uh basic interactions different basic pictures you know like for example the one with
22:23this family here and we can start elaborating mostly in those uh cambridge tests you are gonna be um you
22:32are gonna be um some pictures are gonna be exposed to you so that you can elaborate what you think or what
22:39you feel uh for example let's say that you're in a cambridge interview and this show this picture is
22:46presented or is shown to you and you would have to describe what you see or what is uh what could
22:52possibly be occurring on these on this situation so we start from there so it's something that you can
22:58practice individually you can take random pictures of different topics uh people animals economy countries
23:07sports and try to write about everything you see try to write uh everything that comes
23:15uh to your mind while seeing these type of pictures so that you can have a better framework of what
23:22you actually want to communicate so that you can concentrate a lot better and while you're writing
23:28be attentive on the aspects that um become more complex to you so that you can work on them
23:37and and that's how you will start improving uh your english by becoming conscious about
23:45the possible limitations or the possible mistakes that you have so that you can work on correcting them
23:51and eventually you will start acquiring more and more confidence at the moment of speaking
23:58so that's that's necessary in those aspects so for example here we have uh read and listen to a
24:05conversation about a product that's not working for example here we have a situation between two people
24:11so before we actually read the uh the conversation it's a good strategy a good tip here is to try to
24:21guess what could be the possible uh situation going on in here for example use this picture and you start
24:29describing how many people are there uh what could possibly be occurring here so you say well i see two
24:36people they're at the office or they seem to be in a room it's probably their house or they're probably
24:44in a private office at their at their work at their job you know or other other working place where they
24:54work so that they may be discussing about a computer or about an appliance so you start guessing
25:01you know and then you describe their appearance or they're dressed formally or uh they're dressed
25:10informally i don't know there are different things that you can describe or everything that comes to
25:16your mind for example this place reminds me to my previous job where i work as
25:23um as a secretary or as a clerk you know so or in customer service you can describe everything that comes to your mind
25:36so that's uh that's a good practice that's why we focus on this class mainly on on practicing with uh
25:44uh with pictures and uh and creating ideas and uh and developing uh concepts you know so that's
26:00so that you can practice a lot more your english because the grammar well we sometimes have studied
26:07grammar which is important too but you already have a lot of grammar so the the the point in which we
26:13are now is that you have to use your grammar in order to uh get more confident you know in order to get
26:21more familiar with it because it is pointless to study more grammar if we haven't mastered the basics yet
26:29so we have to we have to work on that so that we can learn more complex grammar concepts but
26:39with a good uh with a good uh with a good and appropriate strong basis you know that's really
26:46important the basis is key so we're gonna focus on this we have written listen to a conversation about
26:53a product that is not working but first of all we're gonna elaborate some ideas from here
26:59do you remember a time when you had a problem with a device that wasn't working what do you think david
27:17um yes i remember teacher yes i do
27:21tell me tell me tell me describe don't stop try to use your english i need you to i need you to speak
27:34i'm thinking when was the last time when we have a problem with my device i remember was the last
27:44uh last uh last week when i tried to show uh to show some presentation and i have uh some issues with my laptop
27:59because we can't connect to wi-fi i have some problems with my internet connection
28:09so i i i can the possibility to show the show the old presentation and um for this problem actually
28:23uh and then and i'm trying to connect and uh for my cell phone
28:30uh but i can't i can't connect because i i don't i don't i didn't have um the correct oh i didn't have the
28:50the the correct app the correct application to show to show to share this information from my life
28:58from my laptop to my cell phone okay excellent which is a very common problem whenever we have
29:04some issues with a battery with a with a with the wires sometimes computer and cell phones are rather
29:11difficult to configure excellent very good so what about uh for example uh kitchen appliance did you have
29:18any problem with a kitchen appliance sometimes for instance a microwave or refrigerator or an oven
29:24uh yes teacher sometimes uh i usually uh um the air fry to to make uh some slum dish so um and sometimes
29:43i can't connect because uh this device used a lot of energy in the house
29:48in another in another another uh for example the
30:00how do you play this um microwave right okay microwave yes microwave
30:10is very common to use in my house but sometimes um okay that's that's a problem syntax it's very common
30:18to use a microwave to use a microwave at home remember that remember that in english the noun
30:24it's a complement to your main subject
30:30okay for example at home okay at home
30:37okay we can use the microwave at home because we have uh many issues to connect to the i don't know how
30:57to say when you have to say when you connect um the microwave to the to the wall or the connection
31:03to the plug plug yes because it it it doesn't work the blocking doesn't work the plug didn't work
31:16okay excellent very good so that's that's the point so sometimes that could actually that could actually
31:33be a problem in order uh to change the complete uh electric installation you know so that's that's
31:41that's usually a very common problem you know although rare but uh it's very intriguing whenever
31:47you have that issue but uh okay excellent very good so here we have we're going to listen to this
31:54conversation or to see what's a problem that these people are having seemingly it has to do with a printer
32:00so uh here we go let's check it out so stereo mix let me change it here
32:07read and listen to a conversation about a product that's not working
32:16uh this printer's driving me crazy it's on the blink again what's wrong with it what
32:24isn't wrong with it it's an absolute lemon no seriously what's the problem well first off
32:31the thing's an antique it's 10 years old okay and and it's so slow it takes hours to print and now it
32:42won't print at all well that is a problem maybe it's fixable let me have a look don't bother it's not
32:50worth it the thing's obsolete anyway it's not wireless it has no scanner it can't photocopy sounds like you're
32:59ready for an upgrade airport electronics is having a sale let's get you something more up to date
33:17into a conversation
33:22read and listen to a conversation about a product that's not working
33:26uh this printer's driving me crazy it's on the blink again what's wrong with it
33:36what isn't wrong with it it's an absolute lemon no seriously what's the problem well first off
33:44the thing's an antique it's 10 years old okay and and it's so slow it takes hours to print and now it won't
33:54print at all well that is a problem maybe it's fixable let me have a look don't bother it's not worth it
34:03the thing's obsolete anyway it's not wireless it has no scanner it can't photocopy sounds like you're
34:11ready for an upgrade airport electronics is having a sale let's get you something more up to date
34:24so that we have with this conversation so what's the situation going on david what did you understand
34:34from this description and they are describing uh uh problems with the printer and she tried to help to help
34:48to help to help to to to pick the printer to help to what she tried to help
35:04she tried to help him she tried to help him with his printer with his printer
35:11okay and because i think the printers need an upgrade
35:21that's true you know the printer needs an upgrade perfect that's the point which is very common
35:26to have uh these kind of issues so did you ever have a problem with a with a printer david
35:32yes teacher in the past i have some issues with the printer
35:41i'm trying to to make a copy or uh to do a scanner what do you mean try to to scanner some documents oh to
35:55scan scanner scanner is an m you know to scan some documents okay to scan some documents but i didn't
36:06i didn't you didn't or you couldn't i couldn't sorry okay i couldn't because uh the scan
36:15scan didn't work the scanner the scanner didn't work the scanner didn't work it i couldn't scan my documents
36:32or as a matter of fact i couldn't scan the uh paper sheets or the books or the articles that i planned
36:39in the first place okay so what did you do how did you solve that issue i have to call the id
36:50the person to help me with this issue discovery okay excellent very good and what did i tell you
36:58i told him that uh i can't use the scanner i have some issue to to photocopie photocopy photocopy my
37:15documents and this document i'm very important because we have to send to uh to information the
37:23same day okay yes it was due to that day you know it was due to be sent that specific date so that's
37:31the main that's the main reason so you must have been really stressed in that in that day you know
37:38that must have been really stressing okay excellent very good so did you receive a solution at the end
37:44of the day what did you do well the it person uh helped me to to to fix this problem with the scanner
37:57i don't know what what he he did but it works okay excellent very good so probably well technicians are
38:08really uh useful at these uh these type of uh moments you know so that's the point
38:17so here we have uh the assignment today that we have uh it's that you need to have a personal diary
38:24you know a personal diary so every day you have to write something in your diary it could be anything
38:31you want you know it could be uh something about a movie you watched or something about a friend that
38:37you met with something about a a song that you listened that you probably hadn't uh listened to that
38:46song in a while and listening to that song once more made you feel a particular feeling you know you
38:52try to write about uh something in particular there has to be something in your day something special
38:59or um regardless is special or not you have to write something about uh anything in particular
39:06um a meal that you share with someone but try to write every day so you have to share your writings
39:15in the whatsapp group you know try to write some conclusions of the class try to write some um
39:22aspects of your day you know your routine so but you have to do that daily every day that's good
39:29so do we have do you have any questions with that assignment uh david
39:38now did you understand i need to practice more yes yes try to but it's it's really it's a really
39:46good idea to have a diary because in a diary you can track your progress you know you can see
39:52uh how you improve your writing and eventually that will actually give you more more insights and
40:00more uh efficiency to improve your your speaking as well and you will see it right so that's i'm
40:07gonna send you this conversation to the whatsapp group so that you can also practice with the pictures
40:12here you know you can you can write about what we discuss here the problems that you had with a device
40:19or any similar experience that you could possibly uh have had before um so that's gonna that's going
40:27to serve you as a main idea to to start working on this so that's gonna be everything for today uh
40:34david do you have any other questions
40:39that's true thank you excellent very good so that's the point so we'll see you tomorrow
40:44remember to have a good date and uh take care see you soon thank you thank you bye-bye see you tomorrow
