00:00The longest U.S. government shutdown moving closer to an end.
00:03Eight Senate Democrats breaking with their party to advance a funding measure
00:06with Republicans. Bloomberg's Mika Sona joins us now for more.
00:10Mika, is Minority Leader Schumer losing control of his party?
00:15Well, there's been a lot of criticism of how Leader Chuck Schumer has handled this whole
00:20debacle. I think that he's facing a lot of pressure and critiques from not just his Senate
00:27colleagues, privately and publicly, but also the House, House progressives and the majority
00:32of House members, Leader Hakeem Jeffries, even moderate members like Andy Craig of Minnesota,
00:38for example, are furious at this deal, saying that they're not going to vote for this when
00:42it comes to the House. Granted, it's likely to pass with just Republicans anyway. But yes,
00:49definitely Schumer has taken a lot of heat from not being able to keep his caucus together.
00:54Mika, what are the next steps? Can you describe the process over the next few days to
00:57really end this thing?
00:59Yeah, absolutely. So I think, you know, once the Senate gets through here, we're going to,
01:03all eyes are going to be on the House, who has been out of session for the past few weeks.
01:08You know, Speaker Mike Johnson has to give 36 hours notice to members, and that means a lot of
01:13members will become flying in back to D.C. and or even taking long drives due to delays. But
01:19they're going to have to pass this. And then we're going to have to see what happens in the next
01:22couple of months to when some of the some of the funding levels expire on January 30th. But that's
01:28a fight for another day.
