00:00President Trump set to meet with congressional leaders including Senators Chuck Schumer and John Thune also Congressman Jeffries at the White House today to see if the Democrats and Republicans can hash out a short-term spending bill and avoid a government shutdown with federal funding due to expire tomorrow. Bloomberg's Kasia Klimashinska joins us now from Washington. Kasia, what do we know about what both sides want after the weekend?
00:23We know for sure that the deadline is fast approaching. Government funding is expiring on Tuesday at midnight. So on Wednesday we could see some federal activities closing down unless there is an agreement reached. So on the table there is a bill that was passed by the Republicans-controlled House. That bill would fund the government the way it is being funded now for another six weeks.
00:50And Democrats say it's a non-starter. They want the government to take up health care subsidies and make sure that those health care subsidies are extended so that people don't see basically higher bills for their health care insurance later in the year.
01:06Republicans need Democratic votes in the Senate. They need at least seven of those votes. So that's why there is a meeting today at the White House at 3 p.m.
01:15And President Trump will meet with congressional leaders from both sides and we'll see whether they make any progress.
